Tennessee Renaissance Festivals

Tennessee is host to four annual Renaissance faires in Triune, Cookeville, Rogersville and Ardmore, TN. A Renaissance festival is a fun way to spend the day, combining history with live entertainment, much of it interactive. Where else can you mingle with royalty and peasants in 16th century surroundings?

To fully enjoy a Renaissance fest, it is fun to put together a costume. You will get ideas on costumes by looking at the pictures below and by browsing the Renaissance Marketplace at the bottom of this lens.

This lens will introduce you to four Renaissance festivals in Tennessee. If you are considering attending your first Renaissance Festival, the article Top Five Ways to Prepare for a Renaissance Festival will walk you through how to plan your first visit to a Ren Fest as well as what to bring and what to wear.

Ardmore Renaissance Faire

The Ardmore Renaissance Faire has been held in Ardmore, TN/AL one weekend every April from 2003 through 2008.

Ardmore Renaissance Faire has been held one weekend every April from 2003 through 2008 in the town of Ardmore which sits in both Alabama and Tennessee. Sponsored by the Ardmore Chamber of Commerce, the Renaissance fest did not take place in 2009. Future plans for the Ardmore Renaissance Faire are uncertain at this time, but a spokesperson for the Armore Chamber of Commerce told me in they are hoping to host the Ren faire again in 2010.

The 2008 Ardmore Renaissance Faire featured sword swallower Dan Meyer as well as belly dancers, pirates and shopping. This is the only Ren fest I am aware of in Tennessee where small pets are allowed.

The Shakespeare and Friends Celtic Renaissance Festival has been going on for 10 years in Rogersville, TN, one weekend every June.

Hosted by William Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth I for the past decade, the Shakespeare and Friends Celtic Renaissance Festival in the picturesque small town of Rogersville in Northeast Tennessee offers a little bit of everything. High points in 2009 included a joust, fire eater Johnny Phoenix, Celtic music, and a nice assortment of booths.

The Tennessee Renaissance Festival takes place the first four complete weekends in May and Memorial Day in Triune, TN.

The Tennessee Renaissance Festival located outside of Nashville, Tennessee in the small town of Triune, has been treating its visitors to fine Renaissance entertainment for over 24 years. One of the high points of the Tennessee Renaissance Festival is the fact that Castle Gwynn, a real castle, sits on part of the festival grounds!
