Outdoor Activities:

The Reno area provides unlimited outdoor activities, along with some of the West's most historic sites. From high desert and mountain biking to world class golfing and downhill skiing, this is an all-seasons playground, and whether you visit in the summer or the winter, you will not be disappointed.

The D'Andrea Golf Club offers top notch golfing just ten minutes from downtown Reno and set amid the rolling hills of Sparks, Nevada. Designed by Keith Foster and opened in 2000, D'Andrea Golf & Country Club is rated by Golf Magazine as one of the top regional courses in the West. Offering year round golf, D'Andrea rises 450 feet above the valley, winding up and down the Pahrah Hills, to take full advantage of spectacular views of the city of Reno and the Sierra Nevadas. With as many as six sets of tees on most holes, the dramatic design is both challenging and fun for players of all levels.

If you like to be up in the mountains and have a passion for adventure, Mount Rose is North Lake Tahoe's highest based ski area at an elevation of 8,260 feet, and is in close proximity to the tourist base of Reno. The resort boasts the best conditions in the basin, and consists of nearly 1,000 acres and almost 1,500 vertical feet of bowls, trees and glades. Terrain is suitable for every level, and the views are simply stunning.

Nowhere however are the views of this beautiful region better than from the air, and if you are looking for an adventure in Reno that you will never forget, consider taking a trip upwards with Lake Tahoe Balloons! With great emphasis on safety and quality, you will experience the Reno/Tahoe area in all its glory from 6,200 feet above sea level. This is truly a once in a lifetime experience and the splendors of the mountains, the crisp fresh air, and the rush of excitement will leave you breathless.

Casino Entertainment:

Of course opportunities for fun don't just stop at the great outdoors in Reno. This city is famous for its Casinos and gaming, and downtown on Virginia Street is where you will find yourself in the heart of all the action. The Casinos will dazzle you with their constant excitement and high energy, and whether you are trying to win big or simply taking it all in, this is a part of Reno that you must experience to get a true understanding of what makes this city what it is.

The Eldorado Hotel and Casino, with its ten plus restaurants has some of the best dining options in the city. The building is connected by skywalks to the Circus Circus and Silver Legacy Hotels and in addition to the 81,000-square-foot casino with 2,000 slots, 90 table games and three keno lounges, there is also a 12,400 square-foot convention center onsite, and a 580-seat theater-style showroom featuring Broadway-style entertainment.

Further up Virginia Street, The Peppermill casino was recently named one of the Top 10 Casinos in America by Citysearch and one of Gaming's Top 20 Resorts by Casino Player Magazine. In late 2007 the Peppermill will open a $300-million Tuscan-themed expansion, and presently offers some of the most luxurious and distinctive accommodations in Reno, along with world class gaming featuring all the latest slots, video poker, keno, sports book and table games, including single-deck blackjack, roulette and tiles, and live poker in a smoke-free poker room.

If you're traveling with kids, Circus Circus Hotel and Casino is the place to visit. The circus theme so popular in Las Vegas is carried over to this resort, where clowns and acrobats from headline acts such as Cirque du Soleil and Ringling Brothers entertain you. The high-flying acts perform above you as you play carnival-style games and enjoy the 65,000-square-foot casino.

Family Friendly Activities:

Along with the glitz of the Casinos and the wealth of outdoor activities in the area, Reno also has a lot of other attractions to offer the whole family to enjoy. From the city's live entertainment, or an opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the city, Reno has plenty of attractions for all ages.

At the Nevada Museum of Art, the permanent collection focuses on works depicting nature and the environment, and there is also a lovely rooftop sculpture garden. This impressive four-level structure inspired by the state's Black Rock Desert is a work of art in its own right. The Fleischmann Planetarium features astronomy exhibits, seminars and IMAX movies. Exhibits include a one-ton meteorite, a solar system model and much more.

Dubbed the 'biggest little city', Reno is certainly big on excitement, fun and entertainment, while maintaining its sense of small town community and lack of intimidation to its visitors. A rare combination not found in many places, this city really does have it all.

Reno Recreation

Reno is home to a variety of recreation activities including both seasonal and year-round. In the summer, Reno locals can be found near three major bodies of water: Lake Tahoe, the Truckee River, and Pyramid Lake. Lake Tahoe, which splits the border between California and Nevada, provides visitors and locals with opportunities to fish, water-ski and wakeboard, parasail, jet-ski, and of course swim. The Truckee River runs from Lake Tahoe through the center of downtown Reno and up to Pyramid Lake. After receiving city funding, the Truckee River now draws kayakers from all over the United States. The river is also a major part Artown, held in the summer at Wingfield Park, where locals and visitors come to swim, inner-tube, raft and enjoy local Reno culture.

Winters in Reno are just as enjoyable. Skiing and snowboarding are among the most popular winter sports and draw in many tourists. There are approximately eight major ski resorts, including Northstar-at-Tahoe, Sierra-at-Tahoe, Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley Ski Resort, Sugar Bowl, Diamond Peak, Heavenly and Mount Rose Ski Resort located as close as eleven miles and as far as ninety-eight miles from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Other popular winter activities include cross country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and snowmobiling.
