Civil War Revolvers
Civil War RevolversColt's Invention Revolutionizes Warfare
Samuel Colt's 1836 patent for a pistol with a revolving cylinder revolutionized warfare, particularly for the cavalry. Obviously, reloading a cap and barrel weapon while on horseback was nearly impossible. The revolver enabled soldiers to load up to 6 shots of either linen or paper cartridges at one time. By the start of the Civil War, both sides depended on revolvers for both officers and cavalry.
Griswold and Gunnison Model 1851 Revolver
The South's answer to the Colt, Griswold and Gunnison of Macon, Georgia produced over 250,000 of these from 1850 to 1873 and this was the weapon supplied to Confederate officers and cavalrymen. A six-shot revolver, it used .36 caliber cartridges and weighed 25% less than the Colt.
Colt M1869 Army Revolver
Army was strictly a marketing term referring to the .44 caliber version. The Union army bought 130,000 of these during this conflict and they were used in every battle from Bull Run to Lee's surrender at Appomattox Court House. So reliable was this weapon that Confederate soldiers tried to obtain them in any way possible.
Fast Draw Revolver
Fast Draw RevolverLawmen of the Old West knew the difference between life and death was a split second. Thats why the "fast draw" single-action revolver, with its shorter barrel, smooth surface and easy-to-cock hammer became the lawmans weapon of choice. Our Fast draw Revolver is a mirror-perfect replica of the 1873 model used by lawmen all throughout the west. It features an antique gray finish, polished European hardwood handle and heavy cast metal barrel. You can cock the hammer, spin the cylinders, pull the trigger and work the ejector rod. Made by European craftsmen, it is a perfect replica of one of the guns that won the west.
George Washingtons Flintlock Pistol
George Washingtons Flintlock PistolGeorge Washington's favorite weapon was a flintlock pistol made by the famous London gunsmith Hawkins in 1748. This perfect non-firing replica features working hammer and trigger mechanisms. With its small size and relatively light weight, it became a staple of card sharks and con men. You could put it in your pocket or hide it in your boot.
