You could say that Social Media Optimization is like Underground Marketing in that it isn't obvious advertising like Pay per click. Pay per Click can be a good way to obtain a Residual Income but it can also cost you dearly if you get it wrong. You either invest money or time to generate traffic depending on what you have the most of. If you do not have much money then it is time you need. You must use that time wisely with good training if you want to achieve that Residual Income. Make sure that you network on appropriate sites relevant to your offer or you will be accused of spamming. What happens is this - nothing. And because nothing seems to be happening people stop. Don't stop, keep being active and after a time you will start to get your Residual Income. As long as your activity contains reasonably content and you are doing it correctly, it will pay off with your Residual Income in time. Please don't make the mistake of jumping to another offer, because that will take time as well, not matter what the site said. Choose the offer you are promoting carefully and stick with it. · MySpace - There is a lot of spam of this site now but it is too big not to be involved, there are still a lot of genuine users there (make sure you are one of them).
· Facebook - This site is growing very rapidly in popularity you really should have a presence there and be seen offering good advice. It is very popular.
· LinkedIn - This site is only for professionals and businesses. If you are a professional this site can really help to build a huge network of partners, customers, and other useful contacts in a business network. Do not use it if you do not fit this criteria.

Social News/Media Sharing Websites

· Digg - This site used to be just for technology and similar topics but is now a general news site that has a lot of subscribers and regular readers.
· Reddit - This is very popular that has lots of subscribers and covers a wide range of subjects. It is a social news website.
· Newsvine - Not as popular as the two above and is a bit more formal. However good range of subjects are covered.

Social Bookmarking Websites
· Del.icio.us - You can register with them and bookmark sites that you find useful. It includes a bookmark to your own website and uses a public profile you can increase your presence. Don't just promote yourself though if you want a residual income or you will be seen as a spammer.
· Stumble Upon - This pretty much the same as Del.icio.us. and the same comments apply. You can add a Stumble icon to each of your pages, blog posts, and other media and let your readers do the Stumbling for you.

You can add an icon to your pages that your visitors can automatically use to add a page. You may have seen the "Digg this" and "Stumble" buttons. If you are Dugg or Stumbled this can increase your site visitors and Residual Income.

To keep your visitors coming you must do Social Networking correctly. Generating Leads is your objective here. This means giving your visitors quality content or you will probably do more harm than good. You must also have a good end product that will continue to give you a Residual Income.
