According to Rhode Island Research and Economic Data the fastest growing areas of employment are; nursing and residential care facilities, food services, educational services, professional, scientific and technical services, ambulatory health care services, social assistance, hospitals, securities, commodity contracts and financial investments and related activities, specialty trade contractors, credit intermediation and related activities, amusement, gambling and recreation industries, management of companies and enterprises, administrative and support services and accommodations.

As of the 2006 Census, there were approximately 1,067,610 people who called Rhode Island home. Around 78 percent of residents in the state have a high school education and 25.6 percent have a Bachelor's degree or higher. The median family income in Rhode Island is $47,037, while the national average is $44,334.
