3 Big Lies

Invention of LyingRicky Gervais co-produced and appeared as the lead actor in a movie about lying The Invention of Lying. I don't know how it got a PG-13 rating but if you haven't seen the movie I don't recommend it, I especially don't recommend it for teenagers.

If you watched the movie, did you catch the 3 Big Lies standing proudly above all the other ones?

Here's 3 that I found:

Lie #1 The movie is about entertaining you not converting you to Ricky Gervaism.

Lie #2 Lying makes people happy.

Lie #3 Ricky Gervais doesn't believe in God.

In a 2007 BBC radio interview with Kirsty Young, Ricky Gervais revealed he is an atheist, he later stated that he lost his faith at age eight.

Lie #1 The movie is about entertaining you not converting you to Ricky Gervaism.
The Invention of Lying lost its entertainment value when I sniffed the hidden agenda lying underneath. The thin veil of humor soon wore thin as the bitterness of a middle aged man took the stage and told an elaborate tale, fashioned to convince the masses to join his "special club" and wage war against his sworn enemies.

I think the real story is about an 8 year old little boy named Ricky who was hurt and abused by religious leaders. I can hear the boy crying out "I don't believe in God anymore because the religious people hurt me". I don't mean this to be funny.

Lie #2 Lying makes people happy

spiritual abuse

Eventually the sad little boy grew older and more angry at the religious people who hurt him so he thought he would punish them and God by telling Him he didn't believe in Him anymore and by doing so he would turn all the mean people that supposedly told the truth all the time into liars. Well, they had to be liars because they weren't practicing what they preached, they were living double lives saying one thing and doing another, right! Yes Ricky you're right, they lived a lie and they're not happy.

Your happiness hides behind your forgiveness of these judgmental, abusive, religious legalists that hurt you in your innocence. Yes Ricky, they're the same type of people that Jesus told about forgiveness and yelled at for hurting little ones like you and ultimately the same ones that crucified Him.

You must come to the realization that likely, they suffered similar woes which built up bitterness over time and eventually exploded on you. Hurry up and forgive them Ricky, let the bitterness be removed so you can really make us laugh. Don't be like them, becoming what they didn't forgive.

Lie #3 Ricky Gervais doesn't believe in God.

I think Ricky Gervais does believe in God but he is confused like most of us. It's hard to believe in God when people that claim to represent Him do things like hurting little children, then act so holy in front of everybody else. In these cases I think it becomes obvious who they don't represent.

If Ricky didn't believe in God then why does he keep bringing him up? I mean, he does his comedy act with an actual bible, his movie made God and heaven the central theme. If you don't believe someone exists you don't bring them up all the time and you especially don't make them your opponent or the object of your criticism. That would be like standing in a boxing ring all by yourself throwing punches into the air, occasionally hitting yourself and ultimately looking like a crazy man!
