How to Choose the Right Kid's Toys

Life span of toys : Have you ever wondered what happened to toys that last?

If you are in your mid to late 30's you may still have a few of your own toys that you can pass down to your kids. But can you the same for the children's toys that are flooding the market these days? In this electronic age, expecting a digital toy to last a few generations is asking for too much. In fact, it would not even last till your child has had his or her share of fun with it.

Quality check : these days, most toys sport the "made in China" or such label because of the ever-growing need for higher profits and lower spending. But have you ever stopped to think about the quality standards of those imported toys? Although plastic takes many years to break down, its structure is often compromised quickly and rendered useless. For a nuclear family with one or two children, frequent purchase of toys is quite feasible but what about the large families comprising of more than two children? I know of a family that has five boys ranging in age from two to twelve.

The parents understand the need for longer-lasting toys like wooden toys, metal toys or other such sturdy items. They realized that, although, money always seemed tight, only the sturdily built toys which they had bought for their first child was still around for their fifth. So although the purchase was costlier it was worth its cost. Moreover, one of the primary factors a parent has to keep in mind while purchasing a toy is safety. A toy is a child's best friend and you certainly would not want it to harm your child's health. Since a child's sense of sight is the most active, colors never fail to attract him. Thus, it's no surprise that the perfect children's toys are brightly colored.

Most young children not only play with their toys, but also taste them! So you must be extremely careful about the paint that has been used. Most paints in the market contain traces of lead or other harmful chemicals which can cause memory loss and such harm to your child's health. If you are purchasing a painted toy, remember to check the product label, or if you're painting it yourself, check the label on the paint-can to ensure it is child-safe.

Every parent would want to give his or her child the best moments of fun but it is your duty to ensure that no compromise is made when it comes to your child's safety.
