Rise Against

Perhaps they gain strength from the crowds and feed off the frenzy of its excitement, but live performances by Rise Against seem to crush the exuberance and passion evidenced on their CDs. From the band's debut cuts on its first release, "The Unraveling" through four successful CDs the band has not strayed from its underground punk, hardcore rock.

Rising from the ashes of 88 Fingers Louie in 1999, Chicago based Rise Against spread their personal beliefs through their music and lyrics, as they Rise Against the wrongs they see being committed around the globe.

Since 1999 Tim McIlrath has been carrying the vocal range for the band through numerous personnel changes over its seven-year history, with other original members bassist Joe Principi, Tony Tintari on drums and Mr. Precision on guitar and vocals. Between CD releases Rise Against tours extensively throughout the United States and Canada and due to its staunch stand as vegans, it counts members of PETA as some of its most loyal fans.

Under the original name of Transistor Revolt, they released their self-titled demo CD in 2000, a full year before signing with Fat Wreck Chords and experienced Tintari leaving the group, followed in 2001 by Mr. Precision. Todd Mahoney stepped in to replace Mr. Precision Brandon Barns took on the percussion duties. Veteran punk rock producer Mass Giorgini produced their 2001 release of their first CD, "The Unraveling" and after extensive touring, the group returned to the studio for their second effort "Revolution Per Minute," produced by Bill Stevenson at The Blasting Room in 2003.

This CD gather acclaim from fans a several record labels, and they chose to go with Dreamworks Records. However, after recording their third CD, "Siren Song of the Counter Culture" Dreamworks was absorbed by Universal Music Group and Rise Against found their name on the Geffen Label, a subsidiary of Universal. The CD was released in the fall of 2004, with Mohney deciding to seek fame and fortune elsewhere, and was replaced by Chris Chasse.

From this third album the group was rewarded in 2004 when Give It All climbed to number 37 on Billboard, and again in 2005 when another cut from the CD, Swing Away Life hit number 93 on the US Pop chart and number 12 on the US Modern Rock chart. The third cut to break into the top, at number 33 in 2005, was Life Less Frightening."

Following the release of Siren Song of the Counter Culture Rise Against spread the hardrock word on tour in the United States, Europe, Australia and Japan. In 2006, Bill Stevenson produced the fourth CD at The Blasting Room, The Sufferer and the Witness witch hit 10 on the Billboard Top 200 and has gone platinum in Canada, cementing their place in the genre's history.

My Chemical Romance had their backing on an early tour in 2007, and the same day the tour began it was announced that Chris Chasse was leaving the group, replaced by Zach Blair from Only Crime and has also toured with The Loved Ones.

Throughout all if the band's commercial success they have remained true to their roots on the punk rock and hardcore punk music scene, never wavering from the music that has brought the so much success. They have also not abandoned their vegan lifestyle or their belief in the protection of animals. Their vegan lifestyle as well as their concern for world peace is evident in their lyrics.

Delivering a sometimes politically charged message to their fans is done with the hard style and pointed lyrics, offering their beliefs in that which they sing. Their music is loud. It is hard and it is totally together, instrumentally and vocally. Their message is clear that there are things they feel very strongly about and of many of those beliefs they there were issues they had to Rise Against.
