Road Trip With Your Dog
We travel a lot by car throughout the States, and we always take our dog with us. We have learned a lot of useful tips along the way (like bringing along extra towels to mop up soggy paws since it might be raining in the State you're driving through). Below are some useful tips when traveling with your dog.

Enjoying a Happy Trip with your Dog
Some dogs love a good car ride. Some would rather chase behind them. If you know you will be going on a long road trip with your dog, it is very wise to get the dog used to riding in the car. Before your road trip, take the dog with you everywhere, even if you're just driving down the street to the grocery store. The point is to get your dog feeling very comfortable with riding and getting in and out of the car. Once you know how your dog behaves in the car, you will then have an idea of what kind of adjustments you will need to make, if any, on the day of your trip.A pet carrier or crate might be necessary for a lot of reasons, including safety.
If your dog is one that will run wildly back and forth around the vehicle, keeping him contained may become necessary. During the road trip stop often along the way to allow your dog to stretch the legs and relieve itself. Stopping often also helps dogs who are prone to getting car sick. If you do have a dog that is prone to getting car sick, there is a very good all-natural product remedy (listed below) to help with this. I would highly advise buying to take on your road trip with your dog and keep it handy.

A word of caution: Cars can quickly become ovens, even when the weather seems mild. It only takes a few minutes to heat up the inside of a car in direct sunlight, so play it safe and do not leave your dog in the car.

What to pack??
Besides your crate or carrier, here is a list that I have put together of items that are "must haves" when going on a road trip with your dog.
The collar, leash or harness
Dog food, including treats
Doggie chews like kongs or chew sticks
Water and food bowls
A few toys and other familiar items
Any medications
A few towels for drying paws or fur
A blanket in case it gets cold
Dog bed or mat for when you reach your destination
Bags for picking up poop
Hand wipes for youIf your dog is prone to car sickness, it would be wise to bring some Pet Alive with you! It is an all natural remedy that is excellent for relieving stress and motion sickness. Ingredients are well-researched, natural, safe and effective. We keep it in the glove box in the car and just sprinkle a "pinch" onto our dog's tongue. It works immediately. Buy it now.

- We take our dog with us to the beach which is a four-hour drive. We have found several stopping points along the way so she can get out and stretch her legs. I bring the tennis ball and play ball with her for a little while. 5* on your lens

- This is always a problem, Evelyn, when traveling with pets. When we travel, we always stay at Bed & Breakfasts that allow pets since they will usually have an enclosed play area for the pet to romp around in while we're out at a museum or some such place that does not allow pets. Otherwise, the pet stays in a crate while we're out. Fortunately, we are never gone too long and we always grab our dog and go see "the sights." We try to find outdoor cafes or restaurants with outdoor seating so we can keep our dog with us while we eat.
It certainly does take some extra planning and preparation when traveling with pets.

- Great lens! We just took a road trip this summer with our cat.It made me realize how mush planning needs to be done. We wanted to stop at the museums in Washington DC but what do you do with the cat?
How would you deal with a dog if you were to go into a museum or other place that didn't allow pets?

- Don't take your dog if it can't handle it, don't go on vacation either . Just stay home and save your money. Your dog could end up dehydrated and die just because you want it to go on a trip with you. If you take it to a kennel , they might mistake it for someone else dog and give it medicine that it is not supposed to have, leave it with a trustworthy person with a fenced in yard or do not go on your trip or fly instead of drive. I think dogs do well on planes, but I might be wrong.
