My World At 18 Months

This is what I was doing at age 18 months, enjoying life sitting on the back of my parents 1941 Buick. All my needs were met, things were great! Little did I know how life was going to change and what would be expected of me. My family, friends were all happy in spite of WWII rationing we had plenty to eat.

The '41 Buick cost $1,006.00 and our house with 3 porches was worth about $10,000. It's hard to imagine that today 66 years later some Buick's have a sticker price of $35,000 plus, and a house like I grew up in could cost more than $350,000 plus!

Today, 66 Years Later

Life's A Challenge

It's hard to imagine that in 66 years the cost of a lot of cars increased by a factor of 30! What are today's children going to do when they are in their 60's. If the price of a car rises by a factor of 30 in the next 60 years, it's price would be $900,000. What will happen to other costs, such as, homes, food, education, health care, and energy?

As challenging as life is today, people need to take action to prepare for their retirement. It won't be easy, and it's unlikely the Government will have the revenue to take care of us.

What can you do to survive? Start saving more, don't be addicted to spending on everything you or the kids think they must have. Start up of your own business is a way to supplement getting ready for retirement.

The US has been on a long term mission to get the rest of the world to live like us, that's great for those that don't have much. But what has not been considered is how is this done and still have life be affordable. Henry Ford said "Thinking is the hardest thing people do, that's why people do so little of it." To live the lifestyle you want, you have to think and plan for it. As John Kennedy said "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for it."
