Rock Stars and their Glasses

Many years ago when I was in high school (OK, not THAT many) - I used to get a lot of compliments that I looked like Lisa Loeb. I knew it was the glasses and quite possibly the blonde chunks in my hair that my mom BEGGED me not to do but I always took those comments as compliments. Actually, I grew attached to my glasses at an early age. Eight years old to be exact. When all the girls in my school wore contact lenses, I chose to wear eyeglasses. Even now, I own about five different pairs of eyeglasses. I remember thinking "Elton John is popular and profitable with his eyeglasses ... I can be like that too!" I admired that pop stars and musicians did their own "thing" and used glasses as part of their act. It is because of these pioneers that I bring you...

11. Rivers Cuomo: Most people know Rivers from the band Weezer but ever since the "Buddy Holly" video he became a household name with his frames.

10. Anthony Kiedis: The Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman is known for doing crazy things on-stage but off-stage he can be seen mulling around Los Angeles looking chilled out.

9. Janis Joplin: Free spirited and rebellious, Janis Joplin made waves with her voice but had a huge impact on me with her funky and colorful eyeglass frames.

8. John Lennon: Best known for his music, John Lennon (and the rest of the Beatles) took the fashion world by storm but Lennon's glasses still stand as iconic!

7. Buddy Holly: There are no words to describe the impact that Buddy Holly had on the vision industry. His frames have been done and re-done but still stand the test of time!

6. Benny Goodman: Before there was Buddy Holly there was Benny Goodman. He was original in his rimless eyeglass frames!

5. D.M.C. (aka Darryl Matthews McDaniels from RUN DMC): Iconic for his beats but legendary (for me) for his specs!

4. Elton John: Did you think I wouldn't put the queen of eye glasses on this list?? Please. Elton switches glasses about as often as Cher switched ... um... costumes.

3. Bo Diddley: A legend in his own right...in so many ways.

2. Andre 3000: Well known for his funky beats and interesting threads, Andre 3000 is also a connoisseur of glasses. No one knows if they are for fashion or prescription purposes.

And last but certainly not least...

1. Lisa Loeb: I have to give homegirl some credit- she took a negative and made it into a positive. Her glasses stay true to her personality and give her an edgy "girl next door" look!
