Rocket Moms Session 5 Lensography - JPTanabe
Ranked #3,886 in Squidoo Community, #274,643 overall
The lenses I created during Session 5 of the RocketMoms
Then it was the beginning of 2010. I was tired (aren't we all in January) and not sure how many new lenses I'd want to make. I needed to do some "clean up" on all those lenses I had made in 2009, all 100 of them to be precise! Why would I want another challenge?
Well, I didn't really, but RocketMoms is very friendly and easy going. You can do as much or as little as you want. So I thought, why not!
This is the "lensography" of lenses I created in Session 5 of RocketMoms. Hope you like them!

Niche Hobby

Well the first week almost had me stumped! A niche hobby, sounds nice but what should I write about? Isn't a hobby something you do in your spare time, something you enjoy, not to make money (that's called work!). To write about something like that, and have it be a "niche" as well, challenged me.

See, I've already written about things like "Why I Love Tea" and "Favorite Books to Reread" which take care of two of my most favorite activities. I've also written about "Legendary Creatures of this World and Beyond" and "Mysterious Monuments and Who Built Them" - great interests of mine. I've even written about "Back to School - Back to Maine" which features my daughter's college life and explains some of my lack of free time, and I've even written about my cats in "Recipe for a Happy Cat."
So, what's left? Others started submitting beautiful lenses on "How to Take Great Pictures of Your Kids," How to Write a Really Great Poem" and even "Is Redgage a Hobby?." Now that's more like it - something that might not normally be considered a hobby, I can do that!
So, my realization was that I spend lots of my free time taking care of my multiple cats - those very ones that featured in my "recipe" lens! Yes, taking care of cats can be my hobby! Here we are:
Food and Cooking

Oh goodness, a food lens! Now I was really wondering how I could get through this RocketMoms session. Why did I attempt it at all? Maybe I should just bow out gracefully while the going's good and focus on other things.
I noticed lovely recipes appearing, from "Asparagus Potato Gratin," to "Quick Chicken Wine Casserole," to "My Grandmother's Banana Nut Bread," to "Vegetarian Meals," mouthwatering recipes were appearing thick and fast. But I had no inspiration. So, I just let this week's challenge slip by.

Then the Extra Credit came along and I was able to do that one quickly. And the next one. So finally I came back to this and got inspired - let's do something Japanese! But not food, I decided to do a lens on drinking Sake.
Music

This week's topic inspired me. I just love music but I haven't written many music related lenses. So I actually had too many ideas for this one!
I noticed beautiful lenses appearing again, which didn't discourage me this time! I just enjoyed them. Here's some I especially liked: "Martina McBride," "Ludwig Van Beethoven," and "Dirty Dancing: Songs From The Movie." Quite a variety you see! And still I had too many choices.

Then, the telethon for Haiti happened and there was Shakira singing "I'll Stand by You." I'm not a great Shakira fan (so I was actually quite surprised that she did a fairly good job on this) but I really love this song. My daughter sang it at a high school concert one year (unfortunately I think that was the only concert no-one recorded!) and did a great job. I'm hoping she sings it again some time and my husband brings the video camera so I can add it to this lens!
Ask a Question

Ask a question using the "Hey Monkey Brain" template, oh that sounded like fun! And it was.
What an amazing collection of questions RocketMoms enjoyed asking. Maybe it's because as moms we've been asked so many interesting questions by our kids, finally a chance to do the asking ourselves!

Here's a few examples that I enjoyed: "Study: Will Watching Avatar the Movie Make me Sick?," "Flat Income Tax or Current Income Tax"And Groundhog Day Is Ridiculous!" were all very timely!
I chose something less seasonal, and maybe influenced by the weight of the "Food and Cooking" challenge still hanging over my head:
Squid Quiz

Oh yes, a quiz! These are such fun. They actually take longer to make than you might think (it's harder to think up wrong answers than correct ones!). I've also noticed people usually don't do nearly as well on them as we would expect. I've never aced anyone's quiz yet! I always think my questions are too easy, but apparently not.
I decided to do one on my favorite Mysterious Monuments (surprise, surprise, people found it hard).

These are also good ones if you want to try a few more by my fellow RocketMoms: "Quiz: How Well Do You Know the Bible?," "Do You Know the Truth About Leprechauns?," and "Quiz: Are you a true LOST fan?."
Travel

Travel, OK, I love travel. Sometimes I just travel in my mind, sometimes I'm inspired by photos of distant places, sometimes I actually go places. And sometimes I think what a hassle!

The RocketMoms came up with pretty good stuff on this topic: "Pictures of Tuscany for Your Home or Office," "Family Vacation in Destin, Florida," "Traveling On Airplanes With Kids."
In the end, I just wrote about the town where I live.
Extra Credit

Extra credit is wonderful! You can substitute it for one of the other challenges (which I almost did for the Food and Cooking week).
This session featured Valentine's Day, so one of our Extra Credits was to make a lens on a Valentine's Day topic and we had the special Valentine's template with lots of hearts to make them extra special!
My daughter is a Mary Kay beauty consultant so I decided to feature all the beautiful Valentine's products Mary Kay has to offer for my extra credit lens.

- This is beautiful and creative! I love the way you included other lensmaster's lenses with html links. Thank you for including mine. I was reading right along and I was surprised to see my own lenses mentioned. That is so very thoughtful of you. I am sure several others will be thrilled to see theirs mentioned too. Angel Blessed!
