RocketMoms Session 4 Lensography - JPTanabe

Ranked #4,705 in Squidoo Community, #316,644 overall

Session 4 of the RocketMoms was on Holiday Shopping!

The RocketMoms Session 4 ran from October 26 until December 4 2009, shorter than the usual 8 weeks due to the holidays. Those same holidays were also the theme of this session - Holiday Shopping! As moms, we're quite good at shopping, and even if shopping isn't our most favorite activity we have to do a lot of it for the holiday season. So here we go, building a whole bunch of awesometastic lenses while doing what we're doing anyway - and maybe we're even going to make some money as a bonus, as well as having a whole lot of fun working together and learning from each other.

Welcome to my lensography for RocketMoms Session 4 - the story of my first RocketMoms experience!

About the RocketMoms

Rocketmoms is the brainchild of Bonnie, aka bdkz. It's "a gathering of the smartest women on the web, working together to make Squidoo lenses (and a whole lot more)." There are periodic challenges where we all get together and make a bunch of wonderful lenses! What makes them wonderful? It's the give and take among the lensmasters, with special advice from the experts like Bonnie, and just the greatest support from lots of members of the group. And no, we don't just favorite every lens or give everything 5 stars automatically! We do try to read each others' lenses, and if we have criticism we offer it, nicely of course! If we like a lens we give it the 5 star rating and add our comments to the Guest Book. If we don't agree with what someone wrote, we get into a Duel about it. It's a real virtual community!

Qualifications to be a RocketMom include being a mom, being a squid, and being invited by a RocketMom. So if you want to join this amazing group, you can contact me!

Shout out to special RocketMoms

Just to give you an idea of who the RocketMoms are, here's a few featured lensmasters:

First off (except the order of the images is out of my control!) is Bonnie, or bdkz, without whom RocketMoms wouldn't exist. RocketMoms is amazing and Bonnie is the inspiration behind it. There's really nothing more to say here, except thanks - so thanks Bonnie.

The others I'm including here are from my team on the Giant challenge and who I was delighted to discover are RocketMoms.

First up is MiMi GrowWear. Without MiMi I would still be just a baby squid floundering around and randomly bumping into others but not being properly connected. MiMi invited me to join Team One for the Giant challenge and it was the best experience, got me totally hooked on Squidoo! Yay, MiMi!

Next Is Bev, or BevsPaper, who was my group leader on Team One. Bev is so supportive, she not only reads every lens she gives positive feedback, constructive criticism, and just general inspiring comments! Maybe that's why she's a Giant Greeter and honorary Squid Angel. She also makes really great lenses herself. Go Bev!

And finally we have my amazing Team One teammate Cynthia, better known as Sylvestermouse. You may have seen her wonderful "Hangin' with" series which are delightful presentations on wonderful exotic animals. Cynthia got me invited to join RocketMoms after we both went through the Giant challenge together. Thank you so much for hangin' with me Cynthia!

The fifth spot here is empty, because I can't include all my great new RocketMoms friends. You know who you are - everyone who read and commented on my lenses, and everyone whose amazing lenses I've enjoyed! Some day I'll make another lens to honor you all.

Holiday Shopping

Yes, Session 4 of the RocketMoms was for six weeks in November/December, just in time for holiday shopping! Sounded like fun, and the possibility of making a bit of money through some sales perhaps? This is the main lens for the session, and then let's get started on my lenses.

Unique Gifts

Week 1

This was a great start for me since I have a bunch of lenses on Mysterious Monuments, which are all pretty unique. I found unique gifts related to three of them.

Food, Cooking, Recipes & Kitchen Gifts

Week 2

Well, I knew if I joined RocketMoms I would have to do a recipe at some point. So I struggled a bit and came up with not one but two salads - easy to make and tasting so good!

The BIG Ticket Lens

Week 3

Another struggle! With the economy the way it has been and people losing their jobs I wondered how in good conscience I could recommend extravagant luxury items for people to buy. Inspiration came in the form of food hampers! I featured the most expensive one, and included some more reasonably priced options and felt good about it.

Then, I happened upon the most amazing (and the most expensive) porcelain dragon I've ever seen! As a total lover of Dragons and Dragon Mythology I was enchanted and just had to make a lens about it, which gave me the chance to find out more about the Lladro company that makes it, fascinating! And then I discovered that another of my favorite mythical creatures, the Unicorn, was featured on tapestries and reproductions of them are available, at a big ticket price - a third lens!

Holiday Decorations

Week 4

This was easier now I was on a roll with shopping lenses. Got started with Christmas trains, then enjoyed being able to learn more about the Christopher Radko company that makes gorgeous glass ornaments, and ended with chocolate ornaments!

Toys

Week 5

Still on a roll! I started with mythical creature plush toys and moved into puppets. Folkmanis make these amazing puppets, so realistic and well made, I just love them. So I made lenses on each type! Then I realized that Wavy the Crocodile who appears on Craig Ferguson's "Late Late Show" is a Folkmanis stage puppet! I made the Wavy lens for the Giant 100 "pop culture" week and had a lot of laughs watching the Youtube videos!

Travel & Entertainment

Week 6

After making so many lenses for the previous week's challenge I slowed down a bit on this one - just one lens. Looking at the course of the RocketMoms challenge, with this being the final week, the title "Are We There Yet?" seems rather appropriate!

RocketMoms on Zazzle

Extra Credit

Well, six weeks was the conclusion of the challenge, but then comes "extra credit." This assignment was a lens featuring a zazzle gallery or zazzle products. My husband has had a zazzle gallery for a while so I thought I could work with that but then I decided to set up some items on my own gallery, featuring my beloved cats, as well!

Quiz

Oh and somewhere in the challenge the idea of doing quizzes appeared. This was really great! It was such a fun way to learn more about other RocketMoms. I doubt anyone got 100% on any of the quizzes (except my husband and daughter aced my quiz!).
