I've always thought it would be a great way to retire - have a camper van and travel about looking for rocks and gems.

Nice topic and well presented lens. It is easy to read and not hyped up. Just a good down to earth account of a very popular activity. Well done 5 stars

I love rocks! We live by a river, and lots of the people here also enjoy looking for interesting rocks. Today I saw one that looked like a skull. Creepy!

What a wonderful way to share a hobby. Your family must have enjoyed the tradition. I found a very large piece of rose quartz on one trip. It was large enough to give each of the women in our family a sizable piece, big enough to use as a doorstop (smile).!

I'm glad you like. When I get the chance, I'd like to visit the UK. I understand that fossils are a big thing there.

One of our best memories comes from a trip to Colorado. We followed the Arkansas river back into the mountains quite a ways in search of rose quartz at a aquamarine mine. It was a very successful trip.

Thanks for the compliment. I like the Mojave Desert. Do you have a favorite place?

Great idea for fun! Where do you go? What kinds have you found? I'd be interested to hear your story to help fill out some of the details on how you locate good sites and recognize the stones. I look forward to coming back for more.

Excellent information! I like to dig on the reservation (Pine Ridge) in South Dakota. I have found some great antique beads (which is what I was looking for!) :)

very informative lens on a great subject. My brother in law used to be a rock hound. I enjoyed the tumbling an polishing, I don't know if he had too much value of anything, but it was nice.

My dad was an avid rockhound. I loved looking at his finds.

I had a great uncle who was a rock hound in western Kansas and every Christmas the women in the family would get jewelry made from what he found. It was his passion. But also my family's business was granite and marble so we were always picking up rocks and petrified wood in our travels, though not with the same knowledge base as my great-uncle. This is a useful lens! 5*
