As a mom to 11 rats, 4 guinea pigs, 2 rabbits, and 7 gerbils (oh yeah and 3 humans too), I have a love for all small animals.
Do Guinea Pigs Really NEED beds?
When I tell people that I make beds for small animals such as Guinea Pigs, I am often met with the question, "do Guinea Pigs really need beds?" The simple answer is, no, they don't. Then again, neither do people. I could live a perfectly healthy life with nothing but a pile of wood chips to sleep on. Of course, my pillowtop bed makes me quite a bit happier. Small animals are the same. When I give my pigs a new bed, they act like a kid with a brand new toy. One stays with it until they absolutely have to get up for a drink. As soon as they move, finders keepers, the other piggy moves in to claim it. When the bed is big enough, some pigs will share. Other pigs will puff up their fur and make threatening sounds to any pig that even looks at their bed. In that case, it's good to have a bed for each pig.

Do It Yourself Pet Beds and Toys
Pet beds and toys don't have to be expensive. Some of the best toys can be found around the house. Small animals that chew, love cardboard. When choosing 'found toys', be sure to choose things that are safe for your furry friend. Any box that contained food or food-safe items is fine. Boxes that contained cleaners or chemicals should NOT be used. If you see a warning to keep the item away from children, keep it away from your pet. When in doubt, throw it out.
Of course, you can also buy warm cozy beds from RodentRunway.com!
