How Does An Electronic Drum Set Work
Anatomy Of The Roland Drum Set
An electronic drum set pretty much looks just like an acoustic kit, except for the way it performs. Acoustic drum sets use traditional drum heads, cymbals and hardware. An electric kit uses pads and cymbals which are plugged into an electronic drum module,or brain which it is commonly called. The drum module, such as the Roland TD9, synthesizes the drum strokes through sensors called triggers and outputs the sounds to your speaker system or headphones. You assign specific drum sounds to each pad or device on the kit. Roland is a leader in breakthrough designs when it comes to this type of technology.

Brains Of The Operation
The Roland TD9 Drum Module is the main centerpiece of any electronic kit. A lot of time you will here it being referred to as "the brain". The module is the bread and butter of the kit and basically is what makes the whole thing work. The TD9 module offers you 50 pre-set drum kits and includes 522 drum sounds and effects which you can assign to the pads and cymbals on the kit.Plus, you get 12 input jacks which means you can build your kit all the way up to twelve pieces. When you couple this with the Roland TD9SX hardware you now have a formidable electronic kit

Roland Mesh Heads And Cymbals
The kit itself has all the bells and whistles of a regular acoustic kit. Actually, you get more versatility with an electronic kit because of the ability to assign drum sounds and effects to any device connected. The difference? It's all electronic. The pads are constructed of a mesh material which imitate the touch and feel of an acoustic set. Some drummers actually prefer the feel and bounce of a mesh head over traditional drum heads. I would have to agree.
This is an important thing to take note of. All drummers want that natural feel and bounce of the stick off of the drum head which emulates a real drum set. Roland has done a great job in this area. Once you actually play on a kit with mesh heads you'll see what I mean.
Whats so Special About Roland Electronic Kits

They are tried and true and have set some pretty high standard as far a quality and breakthroughs in terms pads, cymbals and triggering mechanisms. They were around back in the day right after Simmons first arrived on the scene. The Roland TD-9 series, like the Roland TD9 SX, Roland TDKX and Roland TD12, were developed and perfected as a result of consumer needs and advanced technology. The Roland TD9 SX is a mid level kit which is very popular among beginners and advanced players alike

With so many brands available what makes Roland a great choice? The Roland TD9sx has become a popular choice with drummers because of the quality of it's construction. It's a solid kit, durable, versatile and just an all around solid performer.
What's great about the Roland kits is that they really give you the sense of playing on a real acoustic kit. In fact, a lot of drummers prefer the touch and feel of an electronic set over that of an acoustic. And,a lot of advanced drummers use the TD9 SX , TD12 and Roland TD20 as a convenient alternative practice set.
If you're in the market for a quality beginner or mid level electronic drum set, don't overlook the TD9SX by Roland. It offers enough to keep any beginner busy for a long time plus has everything to satisfy the advanced drummer too.
So What Are The Benefits?
Why Go Roland
One of the biggest benefits you will hear from most any drummer about Roland V Drums is the ability to practice as loud as you want as quiet as can be. How many times have you heard the dreaded "It's too loud" complaint from family or neighbors. With an electronic kit you just pop on the headphones and get after it.Other advantages:
- Convenience
- Portability
- Adaptability
- Expansion
- Privacy
Electronic drum sets are just plain fun and fascinating to play. It's hard to get up when you sit down for a session in front of one of these kits.Read my full review of the Roland TD9 SX at http://Rolandtd9review.com

- I played on one of these before and loved it! You can play with all the different sounds for hours. It has nice playing surfaces that make double stroke rolls a breeze. Great stuff!
