What are Roms and Emulators?
If you heard the term Emulator or Rom, and do not know what it is, you came to the right place. A rom is the software stored inside a videogame cartridge, you can download these roms across the internet. You may be asking how do you get the rom out of the cartridge? Well what I have seen is that there are some devices that copies the software onto a floppy A or any other removable storage device for your computer. Do not expect that roms are not completly accurate.
The confusing thing about roms is that some places I have heard their illegal through and through, but some places it is ok to have it if you own the actual game, if you do not own the actual game delete it within 24 hours. This is for the reasons that I'm not giving links that you can download roms from.
When you got the rom on your computer, the computer doesn't know how to operate it. That's when an Emulator comes in play, a Emulator is the software that makes the computer understands how to run a Rom on your computer. What I have heard that these are basicly the only thing that is legal, I will suggest some of my favorite Emulators through this lens.
Bios are actually the part that are programmed into your video game consoles, and there are some Bios through the internet were copied from the console into a computer to help make the computer understand how to run the game, like the PS1 emulator ePSXe. This emulator requires Bios to help run the Game, or rom.
Bios are another thing that I know that they are illegal. Some emulator's help (such as AdriILE and ePSXe) say "do NOT ask the authors or anyone else for the BIOS, in most cases this will just get you in troubles", Word per word both of these emulators "HELP" said this about the Bios, so if you were looking for Bios look for them yourselves without asking nobody. This is another thing I am not going to say where you are going to find them.

Whats better, the actual game or the rom?
That depends, I like roms because you can see what is the game is like before buying it. There are more chances that you can get a good game not a "throw your money down the drain" game. Since it is free, you should see more glitches than the actual game. BUT, I like the actual game because it is more accurate than the rom, and you do not have to worry about viruses, bugs, etc..

Controllers for roms, What's the perfect controller?
There are a lot of controllers out there for computers, try to find a controller that has similar designs to the actual video game console controller. Lets take a Super Nintendo controller, we need a PC controller that is almost identical to it, it doesn't matter if there are extra buttons, but the question is, is there enough buttons on the controller and does the buttons form a similar pattern as the SNES controller? If so it would be good for SNES.
There is another recommendation I would like to make for choosing controllers for Roms, there are some adapters I have seen through sites that describe what they are, and they are in some marketplaces such as Ebay and Amazon. These adapters convert videogame consoles controllers to a PC controller. Lets take a Nintendo 64 for example, if you own a few Nintendo 64 controllers and have some N64 roms on your computer., but the down side that you do not have controllers that are meant for PC, these adapters will take plug into your PC and use your N64 controllers as a PC controller, therefore you got the perfect controller for your N64 roms.

AdriILE and ePSXe, the PS1 Emulators
These are two PS1 emulators that you may be interested in. The reason I have suggested the AdriILE emulator because this emulator you can use instantly, but its compatibility may not be as great as the ePSXe.
I think I have read in some places that the ePSXe emulator is the most popular PS1 emulator, it is Dual Shock compatible (luckily I have PC controllers that are identical to the PS1 Controller), but about the requirements. I would probably recommend to build a computer specifically for this emulator because I have tried to get this emulator to work, but it is picky with my computer requirements, and requires Bios (mind you their illegal). The Help will tell you what are the requirements, and tells you what kind of problems is to be encountered while play a specific game.
The beauty about these two emulators (and other emulators) that you can actually take a game that you typically put into your PS1 console into your CD-Rom and play it on your computer! But the downside is that the computer that emulates the game may have some problems like they could on your PS2 or PS3.
PS1 emulators are not the only emulators that could be able to play CD games, there are Sega Genesis Emulators, Nintendo Gamecube Emulators and other Emulators that can understand the games that could be played on their official consoles.

I know that the picture I have added looks like a black square but that whats it looks like when you open this emulator. With a Ocean color menu on the top left corner.

Project 64, the N64 emulator (another of my favorite Emulators)
Mame32, short for Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator
If I understand correctly Mame is an Emulator that is used for building Arcade systems. You have to go through a process in order to build and sell Arcade's as a business, I am not exactly sure how to find legal roms in order to help build these Arcade systems, but you can find roms as easily as finding any other rom, but I am not promising it's legal. I only be able to find 1 working rom, but I am not planning to get another one, since the roms are large, and most roms I've tried doesn't work.

Roms and Emulators on Video Game Consoles
For quite a while I know you can play other videogame console games on your Computer, it didn't matter if it is a Windows operating system, a Mac operating system or the Linux operating system.
But now what I have heard you can play Roms that are meant for one video game console on a totally different console. Like playing the Nintendo Entertainment system games on a PlayStation 1 console. You can even make Super Nintendo portable, by putting the Roms and a emulator (I forgot the name of the emulator) on a PlayStation Portable. I didn't got to the bottom of this yet but I am for sure you can play games on other consoles.

Patches
What are they? or How go you apply them to Roms?
I have just found this out yesterday through Google, I only spotted them for Chrono Trigger (SNES Version), I have tried some and seems as though you're playing a new part of this series, Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes Demo 2.0, for example, this Patch is about what had happen after beating Lavos.
However there are some patches that seems to extend the Chrono Trigger Game, Chrono Trigger Coliseum, or the Chrono Trigger Hard Type patch, these patches will make the game harder, and add a battle arena in 2300 A.D..
How do I apply the Patch onto the Rom?
What I have learn and tested about applying the Patch on the Rom is basically renaming a file or two.
This is what the site said about applying them.
"All you need to do is make sure the game and its English patch have the same file name (don't change their file extensions). They both must be unzipped and in the same folder. And that's it. :) ZSNES and SNES9X will automatically patch them together when you load up the ROM."
Here's my example. So lets say your applying Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes Demo 2.0 Patch to the Chrono Trigger Rom. The Name of the Patch File "CTCED.ips"
The Rom is called "Chrono_Trigger.smc" You could change the .smc files name into CTCED, or you can change the .ips files name into Chrono_Trigger.
After you change the files name to the same title, you can load up the Rom to the Emulator, and it should work. Hope you enjoy. If you are looking for other Chrono Trigger Patch Titles come visit my Chrono Trigger Lens

Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes Demo 2.0 Game Genie Codes
If you already know how to apply Game Genie codes to your SNES Rom, your a step ahead. If you already know how to apply Game Genie codes to your desired ROM, you can skip this paragraph. But for those that doesn't know how to load Game Genie Codes for SNES Roms, I only know how to apply codes on ZSNES for Windows. When you load the desired ROM using ZSNES, press ESC and click on "Cheat" and "Add Code", this is when you enter the desired Game Genie code(s) with a short description of what the code is meant for, once you entered the desired codes, you can save it, so when you load the exact ROM later, go to the "Add Code" screen again and click on the "Load" button, and all the codes you've previously applied will load, that sure helps save a lot of time if you enter tons of codes you like to apply later.
Now the question you may be asking, if you used a patch on your ROM like Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes Demo 2.0 you can use Game Genie codes that is meant for the ROM you used the Patch on, in this case Game Genie codes for Chrono Trigger. You can come visit my Super Nintendo Game Genie Codes Blog to find some Chrono Trigger Game Genie Codes. Once you have the Chrono Trigger Codes, apply them to the Chrono Trigger Crimson Echoes Demo 2.0 ROM, or any other Patched Chrono Trigger ROM that is. Now you can get all you Tech abilities, and get LV99 in one battle in all Chrono Trigger Patched Roms, Enjoy :D.
