Ongoing Review of Rosetta Stone's Mandarin Chinese Curriculum

I'm currently going working through RosettaStone's Mandarin Chinese curriculum.  I own levels 1 and 2.  I'm studying while living in Taiwan.  I will post my impressions and suggestions of this software as I work with it.

I hope to develop this lens into one of the most complete reviews of this software and curriculum by a layperson and student.

By the way, this site runs on stars and cents.  If you enjoy the content, please rate this lens highly.  If you do not, please e-mail me with the reasons why, so that I can improve it.  Also, if you like any of the books or merchandise suggested her, please use the links from this lens to purchase them.

Buy and Try it for Yourself

Chinese Level 1 & 2 Win/Mac Personal Edition [Old Version]

This is the package that I purchased...level 2 seems so far away...

Chinese Level 1 Win/Mac Personal Edition [Old Version]

If you can't put down the big chunk of change for both levels, or are uncertain that you will make it to level 2, try buying just level one first. There is a LOT of material to go through in this level. You'll be at it for weeks or months.

Chinese Level 2 Win/Mac Personal Edition [Old Version]

I have not yet made it to level 2. But my understanding is that it uses more videos for advanced conversation.

Rosetta Stone: Chinese Explorer

I have no idea what this is. I just found it on Amazon. I'll look into it more and report back.

Get it Cheap on eBay

By the software used or buy it new at a discount

Unlike workbooks, you can buy this software used and it'll be the same as if you had it new. This curriculum is all about the software. The books are not as important. They can be nice to see the text, but you really don't need them. So if you really need to save money and can get the software cheap without the books, go ahead. Your main risk will be the condition of the CDs. Make sure they are not scratched and test them to that you can return them immediately if there are any defects.
