Rosetta Stone Spanish Takes Teaching To A New Level

Students of language, executives and travelers often find that learning a new language from textbooks doesn't necessarily translate to skills that work in the real world. One of the most blatant examples of this lies in the common teaching of Spanish. Generally, only one version of this multi-dialect language is taught. The Rosetta Stone Spanish program seeks to overcome the pitfalls of textbook learning.

Textbooks that teach Spanish often favor only one form of this rich and dynamic language. The typical desire is to teach European Spanish. While this can be beneficial for those doing business in Spain or planning to travel there, it isn't always practical. The fact of the matter is the Spanish spoken in Spain is quite different than the dialect in the Americas. The Rosetta Stone Spanish program recognizes this. To help ensure students learn the version they truly require, the program comes with two completely different formats.

Rosetta Stone Spanish is taught via computer so lessons are easy to follow, repeat and progress through. The immersion approach used in the lessons teaches not only pronunciation, but also reading, writing and listening skills, as well. The combination is considered vital to truly being able to grasp a language.

While there are lots of similarities between the two versions of Spanish, there are many differences, as well. The reason learning the correct one is necessary include:

- Subtle pronunciation differences. The differing versions of Spanish sometimes have subtle or even blatant pronunciation differences. Learn a word one way and travel to a different location and it's possible people will understand, but they might not.

- Meaning variations. In some cases, a word that means one thing in European Spanish might mean something entirely different in the Americas. If the words happen to have negative connotations in one version of the language, the pitfalls can be particularly troublesome for those learning to speak the language.

When the desire is to learn a language and learn it as correctly as possible, making sure the version necessary is being taught can be vital. If clear, concise communication is desired, this is the only way to go.

By recognizing the differences and demands of the different forms of Spanish, the Rosetta Stone Spanish program sets itself apart from many others. While the European dialect might be considered the "correct" form of the language by professors in some educational institutions
