Sarah Connor Chronicles Fan-made Episodes

Are you making your own episodes of The Sarah Connor Chronicles?
No more harsh comparisons of our humble efforts with what the Trekkers and Trekkists are doing. Yes, they are good and we have much to learn from them but with this update we take a baby step toward closing the gap.
I saw a Terminator series (Christmas eve) and while it is Terminator and not Sarah Connor Chronicles, it is a step in the right direction.
Sarah Connor Chronicles music videos will be collected over at the new Sarah Connor Chronicles: The Music

don't let the titles of these books put you off
they're supposed to be less scary if even a moron can do it
Want to make your own episode?

script: ask me
costumes: unneeded, the show used street clothes except for future scenes
camera: your camera phone
cast: your friends, SCC fans, volunteers
crew: you (keep it simple)
makeup: your mom's lipstick and Karo syrup mixed with red food coloring make decent-looking blood; see below for more tips
pyrotechnics: see next module
editing: just use your favorite search engine to find & download free editing software
distribution: just upload to your favorite video site such as Daily Motion, Vimeo, YouTube, MySpace, Veoh, and Yahoo! Movies.
marketing: I built this entire lens to publicize your Sarah Connor Chronicles episodes for free. And did I mention that it costs you nothing and is free? Just leave me a link or tiny URL or message me at my Twitter site http://twitter.com/#!/Toni_Roman
pyrotechnics

Remember, the bigger the explosion, the quicker The US Department of Homeland Security will drag you off to Guantanamo or some CIA prison where you will be "disappeared."
Seriously, go through proper channels if the explosions will be real. Permits, licenses and that sort of legal stuff. Your choices are --
1. stock footage
2. join a pyrotechnics association (moviemakers have theirs and fireworks families have theirs)
3. simply video fire department training; that way they spend their money and you spend no money
4. video an actual fire (not one you set jackass!) simply follow firetrucks when you hear their sirens. Ladder trucks indicate high rise. Pumpers indicate somewhere where fire hydrants may be scarce. Fire helicopters and fire planes indicate that you live in a national forest and your house may be burnt to the ground when you get back home if the wind is in an unfavorable direction.
5. do a behind the scenes featurette of an action movie. The money you earn will help fund your project and you can borrow your own footage from your featurette.
6. video demolitions of buildings. City and county government may have lists you can get on to be apprised of such demolitions. Then you can scout ahead of time. This is important because skyscrapers are not demolished as often as old factories, warehouses, plants, and other industrial buildings. Houses and single family homes are demolished quite frequently. Fire departments even burn them in controlled blazes to train their firefighters. Police and drug enforcement officials also demolish crack houses in ghettos and sometimes suburbs. In my town, they are so fast that you can literally pass by a house on Tuesday and see a vacant lot (not even rubble!) the next day. They even plant grass to keep out weeds. But your city government may not be as hyper-efficient as the one in my home town. I know what you are thinking. Bulldozer will get in the frame and make your footage useless. Maybe in your script, Sarah or a terminator is bringing down the house. Solution is to shoot live from the other side of the house so that you don't see what is knocking the house down. If you are pleasant to the demolition crew and get cooperation from the city or contractor, heck they might help you set up shots. All they care about is getting the job done fast and you not getting hurt and suing them. So stay out of the way, wear a hardhat and sign a waiver.
7. video fireworks. Hang out with the crew setting up fireworks displays for your city and they will tell you exactly where to set up your tripod. They have professional pride and the idea that some of their best work will be immortalized instead of disappearing in seconds may appeal to them.
don't try this at home
setting your stuntman on fire is considered bad manners and murder
(unless you are a stunt professional)
makeup
Simple battle sign --
quote from Wikipedia:
"In medical terminology, Battle's sign, also mastoid ecchymosis, is an indication of fracture of middle cranial fossa of the skull, and may suggest underlying brain trauma. Battle's sign consists of bruising over the mastoid process, as a result of extravasation of blood along the path of the posterior auricular artery.[1]. The sign is named after William Henry Battle.[2]
Another common bruising sign of a skull injury is raccoon eyes, the purplish discoloration around the eyes following fracture of the frontal portion of the skull base."
In other words, battle sign means some one has probably beating up some one. ER doctors know this as a sign of an abused woman. Riley was abused by Jesse on the Sarah Connor Chronicles for example.
A black eye can be simulated by ordinary makeup applied to only one eye.,
Really graphic injuries means you are going to spend serious money for latex. Ask your high school or college drama department for tips. Or contact an industry professional. Just remember I was the one who warned you to do your first production as cheaply as possible so that you overcome the fear factor in making your own SCC episode. The second time around you have experience.
There are many amateurs into making horror movies. Making deals with them is your best bet for keeping costs down to nothing.
One last comment. If you are focusing on gory effects, then you are missing the point of the Sarah Connor Chronicles which is the story not the injuries per se. Get your script right first.
"The Sarah Connor Chronicles" (how to cover eyebrows and to make scarface)
The following is intended to scare the complacency out of SCChronicles fans.
If Trek fans can do this, then what is the excuse of Sarah Connor fans?
I'm kind of sorry I started this because dealing with all the Trek fan projects is like drinking out of a fire hose full blast.
I don't put this Trek stuff in to demoralize us Sarah Connor Chronicles fans but to inspire us.
- Star Trek: Phase II Home Page
- Star Trek: Phase II is the continuing mission of the Starship Enterprise with Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, Sulu, and Chekov. New Voyages begins just after the completion of the first three years of the five year mission of the USS Enterprise.
- Star Trek: Phase II - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- Star Trek: Phase II was a planned television series based on the characters of Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek, which had run from 1966 to 1969. It was set to air in early 1978 on a proposed Paramount Television Service (a forerunner to UPN). The series was to follow the adventures of the Enterprise crew on a second five-year mission, and be a continuation of the Star Trek franchise.[1]

- FanMade: Star Trek Phoenix; New 25th Century Fan Series Releases First Episode
- There is a new Star Trek fan production that has just released their first episode and it is pretty impressive. Star Trek Phoenix, produced by the Seattle-based Temporal Studios, is a new take on the 25th century of Trek's prime universe, set aboard a massive new ship: the USS Phoenix. More details below.
- STARFLEET : Web Links
- I threw this link in for the reviews of the major Trek fan series and to let you know that not all Trek fan projects are perfect.
- Star Ship Exeter
- Very similar to the New Voyages, these folks have built their own props and made their own costumes in order to made new "Star Trek" episodes based in the original series universe. In this case, however, it is the voyages of the U.S.S. Exeter under the command of Captain John Quincy Garrovick, with a full crew including an Andorian "red shirt" who steals the show. The props aren't as detailed as those for New Voyages, the 3D effects are a little less impressive, and the acting is--well-you get what you pay for. But the editing is strong, the background music is done well, and heck, it's just plain fun seeing what dedicated fans can come up with! Definitely worth an hour or so of your time to view their two finished episodes.
- Star Trek: Hidden Frontier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- The series is set during the era of the Star Trek: The Next Generation series. Episodes revolve around the starship USS Excelsior, and its home base, Deep Space 12, which is located in the Briar Patch, a region of space introduced in the film Star Trek: Insurrection.
This prolific fan-produced Star Trek series set in the 24th century aboard the U.S.S. Excelsior and other starships. What is most impressive about this series is how good it looks for such a low budget. Green screen chroma-keying and on-location shooting keeps costs down, and eye-catching special effects using high-quality 3D ship models enhance each episode without being overwhelming. A sprinkling of real actors amongst the amateur fan actors helps this series look even more professional. But perhaps the most amazing thing is that Hidden Frontier has produced over seven years of half-hour long episodes and now have a number of spin-off series, as well. This has allowed them to develop characters and sub plots beyond any other fan-produced Trek video series. - Star Trek: Hidden Frontier - Boldly Going Where No Fan Film Has Gone Before
- Star Trek: Hidden Frontier, a Star Trek fanfilm, is set after the Dominion War against the backdrop of the Briar Patch, a massive unexplored nebula on the fringe of explored space that was introduced in Star Trek: Insurrection. Featuring David W. Dial, Risha Denney, Larry LaVerne, John Whiting, Barb

Videography or filmographgy will be done in locations where enough fans are concentrated to make the logistics simple. Why?
fan fun only
NOT FOR PROFIT, fan fun only.If it inspires Halcyon and Warner Brothers and the other owners of SCC to make a made-for-TV movie or a made-for-DVD movie or (please God) a third season on a network other than Fox; then great. We're doing this for fun but the Star Trek fans did this and got their show back (Star Trek The Motion Picture, Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and Enterprise and the recent reboot by JJ Abrams).
Hopefully, we won't have to wait as long as they did but Lena, Thomas, Summer, Brian, Richard, Shirley, Mackenzie, and Garret (and the actors who played Murch and Jesse were good too) are sorely missed.
Does this answer the question why?
How?
The challenge is to make SCC fan videos (to be shown on YouTube or other free outlet) without spending any money, not $0.01, not 1c, not one cent. We won't be making any money either so Halcyon, Warner Brothers and other owners of the Sarah Connor Chronicles franchise shouldn't be able to complicate things legally.

Terminator: The Connor Chronicles
A continuation of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, what we think would have been Season 3
Thirteen 30 minutes episodes
Pure CGI, using models from Maia, 3DS Max, and Blender, with Blender as the rendering software
Full voice cast, sound effects, etc.
editor's note -- basically animated Terminator. not live action. In my opinion, CGI is a tool for making professional looking SCC episodes not an end in itself. Without actors on camera (only their voices), is it really Sarah Connor Chronicles? Just asking.
