Get a new site indexed fast

Indexing is not the same as ranking

Here's the BIG misconception: Getting indexed is the same as getting ranked !

NO IT'S NOT - being indexed is one thing, getting ranked is another. But you can't do the second without sorting out the first.

I get e-mails every day 'guaranteeing' my sites being indexed by Google and all the major Search Engines for a fee. Ignore this rubbish, getting your site indexed (i.e. listed) that's simply not the same as getting ranked well.

Getting your site indexed is easy provided your Meta Tags are half way decent - it will happen naturally as the Search Engine spiders that crawl the web on the lookout for new sites will find you and add your site to their database. A good way to speed up the process for a new site is to do one, two or all of the following:

1) Get a link to your site from another site or Blog - the more popular the better. Pay for it if necessary.

2) Go to Google SiteMaps sign up and add a site map there - use www.sitemapspal.com to generate your sitemap file - upload it to your server and then let Google know

3) Get the free 30 day trial of FeedForAll.com Use some text from your site to fill up the various boxes when you use the easy 'Wizard' to create an RSS feed. Use your site's home page as the web link. Once it's saved - the feed that is - something like yoursitesfeed.xml upload it to your site's root on it's server.

Your RSS feed would then be www.yoursite.com/yoursitesfeed.xml you can then post that link to the various RSS Directories.

4) Create a Press Release, Podcast singing your site's praises (and linking to it).

Page layout tips

Show that SE spider that you care....

When the search engine spiders (bots) come to look at your site and have checked out your lovely Meta Tags they move down the page (from left to right) looking for textual content and the more code they have to wade through before they find that text makes a big difference in how they report back to the Queen Spider Boss re your site and how it should rank.

So, for example, a menu bar built in Flash sitting under your site logo, and above that clever java script that tells your visitor what date it is, means lines and lines of code are sitting above and obscuring all your pertinent text (that you've so carefully peppered with the one or two keyphrases that you thought you had optimized that page for).

Result? Frustrated Search Engine spider = Lower ranking = Bummer!

Get Some Backward Lurv

Yep if other sites link to you it's good....

Inbound Links is that the same as Back Link?

Yep, also shortened to IBL it's a link to your site from another - and if you return the favour by linking to them it's called a reciprocal link.

All the top ranking web sites have hundreds, thousands of back links and the Search Engines take the sensible view that, if lots of other sites have chosen to put a link to your web site on theirs then your site must having good to say or show. Some people reckon that an incoming link impresses the SE's more than a two way reciprocating one

Sounds easy?

Well in theory it is. If your site's any good other sites will refer to it, link to it and over time you will build up a nice collection of back links. But the Engines especially like it if the site that links to you is related in some way to the topic or your site, or the page on your site being linked to and also how that text is worded (or it might be an image of course).

If someone wanted to link to this page here's four ways they might do it....
