How to attach an SLR Lens

Okay, to start I am using a Canon EOS 20D digital Camera. But this will work for many of the other digital SLR camera's, even over different brands (Nikon, Olympus, Kodak, etc...). To start you need to have the lens detached from the SLR body.

I personally only use the Canon lenses. They work excellently and also some work with my standard 35mm camera.

Attaching the SLR lens

How to safely attach an SLR lens to a camera body.
  • ~ADVISORY~
Please be VERY VERY careful when you are attaching the SLR lens to the camera body. One main thing is that both the lens and the sensor are exposed to getting dirt and other debris inside of them. This is not good and can become very costly to have your lenses and sensor inside of your camera cleaned. It can also lead to spots on your pictures that were recorded when you took the picture, and they can show up on the prints you make.
  • When you have the lens detached from the camera body you essentially have 2 pieces. the lens and the body. On my Canon there is a RED CIRCLE and a WHITE SQUARE(on the body). A lot of the newer Canon lenses have both of the icons on them.
  • So all you have to do is match the icon that is on the camera body, to the icon that is on the lens. When you have located both of the icons on the items, all that you have to do is put them together.
  • After you put both of them together you need to safely twist the lens in a clockwise motion. This action connects all of the sensors that will allow the lens to use the auto focus settings, and also for it connect to the camera.

“It's always a good idea to store your camera in a safe dry place!”
