FAMILY SNOWSHOEING: A WONDERFUL WINTER ACTIVITY
When I was young my family used to go skiing. These days it can cost hundreds of dollars just to go skiing for the day and thousands for a weekend trip. Family snowshoeing is a great, inexpensive alternative to standing in line at your local ski resort and it can be more than just a walk in the woods for a few hours.
Snowshoeing is easy and anyone can do it. Below is a short list of ideas and links that can help you get started. Don't forget to share your stories and tips at the bottom.
A FEW FUN TWISTS ON FAMILY SNOWSHOEING ADVENTURES
- Go on a nature walk - see how many different animals you can find. Don't forget to bring binoculars!
- Sugar on snow - scoop up some freshly fallen snow and cover it with sticky maple syrup.
- Go on a moonlight snowshoe adventure - These are great fun especially with headlamps.
- Build a campfire for an afternoon lunch or an evening warm up - add s'mores and hot chocolate to enlarge smiles.
- Be a tracker - bring your animal track card along. Identify their tracks and maybe find out where they live.
