First Slovenians in the United States were missionary priests
In the 1600s some Slovenians settled in small farming communities in Georgia. Slovenian priests built some of the first churches and schools in Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and neighboring parts of Canada.
The majority of Slovenian immigrants came to America between 1880 and World War I. The exact number is impossible to determine because Slovenians were often classified as Austrians, Croats, or other, broader labels, such as Slavonic or Slavic.

However, in case you ever become interested in becoming a social member of Slovenian-American Club, the membership at the moment still costs only $6.00/year - and the paid membership (among other things) also "buys you" attendance at the picnic at the end of the season (in May) - with free food and lots of fun - and attendance at the Christmas party in December with dinner and dancing.
