About SOS Children's Village

SOS Children's Village is the largest organization dedicated to raising orphans and abandoned children. They are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that have been in operations for 60 years. SOS currently has 475 villages in 132 countries and is raising 73,000 children. I came across this organization on myspace.com and I'm always looking for innovative ways to help an organization raise funds so I decided to do a charity lens on them. They are a 501(c)3 organization, so I'm hoping in the near future they would be listed in the donations module. As you can see they are doing great work for children in every part of the world. There are many ways you can help out this organization and getting the word and donating are two of these options. You can also join SOS Children's Village on Linkedin, Facebok, myspace.com and YouTube.

About SOS Children's Village

Children who have been abandoned or orphaned come to SOS Children's Villages where they are integrated into a loving family environment. They are nurtured and supported by an SOS Mother and up to 15 other children in their SOS home who become their SOS brothers and sisters. Strong bonds develop within these "SOS families", and even after the children are grown and leave the village, these family relationships endure. read more

The SOS Mission is as follows:

  • To build families for children in need
  • To help children shape their own future
  • To share in the development of communities

Global Food Crisis

"Skyrocketing prices for basic food and energy are putting many already vulnerable children in an increasingly weak position" says Helmut Kutin, President of SOS Children's Villages. In many communities, mainly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America, the increased cost of living is forcing parents to make difficult decisions in the fulfilment of their children's basic needs. read more
