Eyes from the Sky

SR-71 Blackbird was our major high altitude reconnaissance jet used by the Air Force from 1964 to 1998. Only 32 of these sleek jets were made with 12 being lost to accidents but not a single one to enemy action. These jets known as Habu for its resemblance to an Okinawan viper were truly the eyes from the sky.

Habu Sees You

High Altitude Reconnaissance from the Twentieth Century

The SR-71 Blackbird was a sleek, high altitude reconnaissance jet used by the airforce from 1964 to 1998. The jet was nicknamed Habu by local Okinawans, because it resembled a local viper. The nickname stuck. This jet could reach 80,000 feet. Its standard evasive manuveer from attack was to accelerate and ascend to higher altitude. Only 32 jets were ever operational with twelve being destroyed in flight accidents. Only one crew member was killed in one of these accidents. After various budget battles in the Nineties, this jet was shelved. However, this plane remains the fastest and highest-flying operational manned throughout its career. From an altitude of 80,000 feet, it could survey 100,000 square miles -- truly, Eyes from the Sky.

About JimFeliciano

Hey. I'm just some old guy trying to earn a few extra bucks to send my kid to college. I do graphics and photographs professionally and am a pastor of small church in our local area. Bragging stuff. I've won some best of shows and a number of first places at a couple of county fairs, so the stuff I'm pushing is good quality merchandise with fine images. Help me out and enjoy a unique outlook on things.
