Casual Infinities

At their heart, the purpose of sacred geometries is to inspire us with tantalizing visions of the ultimate or to bring us to the edge of surrender that we may dwell in the still peaceful, waters that lie within our very souls. Almost anything from cathedrals to Angkor Wat or the Taj Majal can inspire one to admire the spirit and ingenuity of man. Natural wonders such as the Grand Canyon, a redwood forest or watch the couple stars in a binary pair tear one another apart can cause one to exalt in the glory of God or quake with fear--depending on one's philosophical bent.

Sacred Art

I fear I am much more the navel watcher--seeking the divine from within. If God want's me he can jolly well come and get it! Am I not as worthy of miracles as dusty old codgers who populate the Holy books? I can even pray for worthy non selfish things such as the cure for all human, plant and animal diseases, sicknesses, illnesses and ailments. You see, I didn't even do that cliche thing of wanting world peace. Don't I get some brownie points for that?

Meanwhile, back at the meaning of life. Often the purpose of Sacred Art is to manifest the divine in the banal. If you consider an ever blooming infinite flower. This is just the extension of a natural process to an infinite frame of reference. This is one means of accessing the divine.

Many religious traditions employ constructs such as mandalas to focus the mind of the supplicant on spiritual matters. For instance the Hindu tradition called the Sri Yantra involves a precise positioning of triangles that represent the male and female essence. The goal of the positioning is harmony.

A completely different traditions practiced by native Americans involves the concept of the Dream Catcher. Dream catchers look like a spiral net--not unlike the Torus Tube that can be derived from the Seed of Life. The is supposed to catch bad dreams which perish when the sunrises but let good dreams go through.
