How To: Mount Motorcycle Saddlebags

For most people buying motorcycle saddlebags is just the beginning. Once you buy the motorcycle saddlebags you must then learn how to mount them. In this lens we will try to help you by giving you tips and tricks on the proper way to mount your motorcycle saddlebags.

Mounting of motorcycle saddlebag brackets.

The first thing you want to do is start by placing the saddle bags on the bike and getting a feel of exactly where you're going to want to position them. Once you have settled on an appropriate location get out the mounting brackets that came with the saddlebags, if none were supplied you can find an assortment of mounting brackets at your local dealer or at the manufacturers website.

The second thing you want to do is to mount the saddlebag brackets to the desired position, then place the bags back on the bike. You'll want to align the holes on the bracket accordingly to the saddlebag style, and size. Once you have done that, you'll also want to make sure to carefully measure the holes before drilling. Now that you have marked the holes on the motorcycle saddlebag you'll want to make sure that you have the correct size drill bit. (see bolt size requirements). Finally, after drilling the holes attach the motorcycle saddlebags and tighten the bolts firmly to the mounting brackets.

Throw over saddlebags are very versatile and do not require brackets. You simply need to remove the seat and lay them over and reinstall the seat.

Todays saddlebags are reinforced for multiple mounting positions. You should not buy a set of saddlebags be it throw-over or bolt-on with it having a fully reinforced back.
