Getting great Photography from inside an often dimly lit church or chapel presents it's own difficulties for Wedding Photographers. Quite often the available light will cause most non professional DSLR cameras to give up or at least struggle to produce acceptable images. The high end Nikon's that we use coupled with fast professional lenses enable us to capture the moment even in very dim conditions such as those here at Salmestone Grange Chapel and provide our clients the photography that they can cherish.

It is often the photographs that are a little different that stand out from the crowd and we believe that our clients should get images that not only fulfill their needs, in terms of the traditional group shots and posed formal images but also provide them with images that are perhaps a little edgy or unusual. The photo here is a candid image of the couple as they prepare to sign the official register and before any formal photographs are allowed. The image is contrasty and black and white but with just some colour picking out the couple and the stained glass window behind the altar. Each wedding is individual and unique in it's own way and should be approached accordingly from a photographic perspective. It is the small moments in time the spontaneous smiles and gestures that the photographer must be ready for that produce the images that just make you smile to look at.. Here, some slight softening and muting of the overall colour give the image a special touch and a warm feel. We look at the images from the day and spend a little extra time in post processing them on the computer to give our clients finished Photographs that they and we can be proud of. Each hour we spend behind the camera on the Wedding Day typically means 3 to 4 hours at the computer.

I think that this is what separates modern wedding photography from the more traditional approaches of the past. Time spent with the Bride and Groom after the ceremony, when the guests are out of sight and they can just chill out and relax together for some private time with their Photographer. The art is in gaining the trust of the couple, especially if they are a little shy or unsure of themselves, allowing them to just relax and gently pose for the camera without being self conscious. This is perhaps more easily achieved if the photography is not being undertaken by a relative or friend and is left to a professional who is skilled in putting people at their ease.
