Our Mission Statement

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination.

The Power of One

(from our 2008 Annual Report)

A note from the Commander, Major Richard Amick:

"Edward Everett Hale so eloquently said, "I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do." You are very important to The Salvation Army and to the work we do. It's the Power of One, each of us working together, united in our mission and strengthened by our God.

"I had the fortunate experience of receiving a donation from a small group of elementary students in Indianapolis last year. The total on the check was not nearly as important as the story behind it. A young man saw a homeless family outside of a local mall and asked his mother about them. The mother, abundantly wise, informed him that they were homeless, which meant they had no place to live. The son asked her who is able to help take care of them. "The Salvation Army," she replied. He took this news to his teacher at school and asked for help in doing something for those families and for The Salvation Army. Together with his classmates, they were able to raise some money to help with the homeless in our community. That's the Power of One: one young child with a passion for people and a mission to accomplish. What an inspiration to me, and I suspect, to all of you, too!

"With good friends like you who find a way to help with generosity and your time, The Salvation Army is able to do the most good for the most people in the most need. God bless you!"

An Annual Report in Video Form

This is the year 2007 in review and the theme for us in 2008.

"Changes can come from the power of many, but only when the many come together to form that which is invincible -- the power of one." -- Bryce Courtenay
