Samsung LN52A850 technology doubles the frame rate from 60 to 120 frames per second (120Hz LCD panel) without repeating the same image to make more frames. Better than Sony

Four months ago, we bought the Sony KDL52WL140 from Sams club. Three weeks ago we replaced it with the Samsung LN52A850. What a difference! (but, give Sams club a "thumbs up" because they took the Sony back for a full refund - no problems at all)

The Samsung LN52A850 has more dynamic color than the Sony and the color stays true from wider viewing angles. I know some people complain about the internal speakers on the Samsung but I cannot speak to that issue as we never use the TV speakers anyway. The Samsung is much cooler (as in creates less heat) than the Sony. The Sony was way too hot (even when the brightness and backlighting were set to low levels.)

The Samsung LN52A850 is thinner than the Sony and also has a USB port for playing videos and such from thumb drives, etc.

We could not be happier with the Samsung LN52A850 . Also, the deliver process was fast, smooth, and FREE! Gotta give this puppy 5 stars!

Beautiful, Amazing, WOW!!!

The Samsung LN52A850 is amazing. I had a 61" rear projection that had a good picture, but It wasn't anywhere near as good as this. The picture quality is incredible. When scenes involve people in a room for instance it's like looking in on them through a window every detail is bright, vivid, and crisp. And that is with stand definition. I record some old black & White shows and they have never looked so good. High definition is nothing short of spectacular. This set can be set to deliver a 60 hrtz or 120 hrtz refresh. The 60 is very good, but the 120 takes it to the next level. The higher refresh rate gives near Blue Ray quality to scenes where there is distant details in the background. These details become visible with the higher refresh rate. I'm seeing absolutely no artifacts in the picture at all.
The viewing angles are where I see a big difference from what I'm used to. The picture quality shows little or no change no matter how far to the side you get. I've laid on the floor directly below the set and the picture is great, and even when I stand right next to it and look down on it the picture is still great.
There are plenty of inputs on the Samsung LN52A850, including 4 hdmi ports. All these different input ports are accessible using the remote. The remote has all the usual features, but it also includes a click wheel that I have found to work well. Clicking the center of the click wheel brings up a menu of the many features on this TV.I won;t bother listing them here, there's a great list on the site. Once the list comes up you can scroll and click through the many features to use them or turn them off.
The Samsung LN52A850 screen is only 2 inches thick, and the whole set doesn't weigh very much at all. You do see some glare on the screen mostly during the day. The screen can be pivoted thought an that helps a lot. The base is very stable. I have the set sitting on a sturdy but narrow table and because most of the weight of the set is in the base the TV sits nicely and isn't tippy at all.
I checked this set out at show room with many LCD's and plasma's on display and this set had what I say is the best picture by far. Even in a large room with a lot of light.
I recommend this TV without the slightest hesitation.

Why Did I wait so long....

So I'm one of those...research to death, get ready to push the buy button, just can't. I have been researching the Samsung LN52A850 and other 50-60 inch models for 3 years. Our family is a long line of know every detail before you buy anything kind of people. To be honest we LOVED the Pioneer line (Elite, Kuro) and kept asking is it worth the extra money (the TONS of extra money) for the AMAZING picture quality. The blacks are so deep and it just stands out from the crowd. That was until this Samsung LN52A850 hit the market. For more than 3,000 dollars LESS we have got an AMAZING Picture quality that words can't describe. Our main issue has always been that the room the Samsung LN52A850 is placed in is an open floor plan living room/kitchen that is very large and has many viewing angles. Add to the fact that there is tons of light from 6 large windows in the two rooms (basically two walls of windows- on the right side a full wall of 5 windows and the one large window facing the tv). We mounted the Samsung LN52A850 above the fireplace with a articulating mount that can do handstands. I have to say that in full sunlight the picture on this TV from ANYWHERE in ANY ROOM is AMAZING...no dip in color, no haze, no glare...just deep 3D picture quality with deep dark colors, not pixel distortion, no haze or refresh issues....just clean deep picture that makes movies I have seen hundreds of times look new and like the people are in the room with me. My 6 year old even asks if we can watch the Samsung LN52A850 where you think you can touch the people vs. our 42" Panasonic upstairs!

Simply put....if you are sitting on the couch waiting for a better TV than the Samsung LN52A850 or Price to come along.....just BUY! This is it and worth the push of the button. I would go more into the tech details, but other reviewers hit on them and I hate repeats. We have a Dish Network system and have had no issue at all with our remotes. We are so THrilled with this Samsung LN52A850 and I am most happy that I saved 4,000 in choosing this 52" over the 50" pioneer I was sure I couldn't live without. For a well lit room and viewing angles from every corner of a very large set of rooms....we are thrilled!!!! (well would have been happier if we would have seen Texas Tech win the Cotton Bowl on our new Samsung LN52A850, but can't blame Samsung for that...or can we?).

Hope this helps someone....I will post if we run into any issues...but this is our 2nd Samsung purchase in 2 years...we are pleased, very pleased with their products. We replaced a Sony XBR with this unit and THRILLED that we did. Will NEVER buy Sony product EVER AGAIN. There is NO customer service with Sony and their product all break down within 2 years or less. We had MAJOR issues with our TV and no help at all from Sony ever....just an offer to flag our account because we seemed to want warranty to fix issues that were covered and that was something Sony just couldn't do....esp. with only 1 month left on our warranty. Needless to say I am not the only Sony avoider in my group...so don't even consider them! Im for the Samsung LN52A850 all the way!
