The NO Fuss Samsung ML 1440 Printer

Ranked #65,338 in Computers & Electronics, #1,014,357 overall

Before anything else, allow me to provide a few facts on the Samsung ML 1440 printer. It was designed to produce excellent black and white printouts with the Samsung 1440 ink and toner and 600 x 600 dpi resolution. This feature is coupled with a 15 ppm capacity. It has a ready USB port as its main way to connect to computers and the device supports different operating systems. Lastly, the printer has a boxy appearance and weighs about 24 lbs.

Great For Personal Use

I bought the printer for $380 at the time, more for my daughter to use than for me. You see, her schoolwork often requires her to produce printouts of projects and reports. She'd be printing as much as 20-30 pages on a school night, usually in black and white. I didn't want to sound critical on her usage because, after all, it is for school. But it bothered me on how much ink was getting used up. At times, I would find myself spending so much on Samsung printer toner. That is until a friend mentioned the Samsung printer.

I couldn't help being skeptical about the printer. One reason is that it cost more than my inkjet printer at $380. Another reason is that it's not capable of printing color. It wasn't long, however, before I began to appreciate its great features. The printer's boxy shape gives it a sturdy appearance. This accommodates both stability and function. Below the printer is a paper tray where you can conveniently store paper. I was glad it there were no paper tray extensions that I might break.

Installing the machine wasn't as much a feat as I thought. The installation manual was very helpful for a non-computer savvy individual like me. I was relieved that the printer was compatible with Windows XP. Honestly, I forgot to consider that when I purchased the printer. After a few minutes, my new printer was ready.

Before long, the printer was set and ready to be used. To satisfy my curiosity, I decided to have a little test run on the printer. I made a document with "new printer" written on it using a size 10 font. It was very small but I figured if the result was good, then the printer is good too. The small font size also saved me from using too much ink. Indeed, the printer produced 15 copies in a minute.

I have very little idea on what the term "dots per inch" really means. All I know is that it has something to do with the print resolution. The 600 dpi of the printer must be good since the copies looked very sharp considering how small the font size was. There were no blotches of ink which made the prints very neat. This is definitely a plus on my daughter's reports.

For me, the best feature is the "toner save". It allows me to save up to 40% on toner. To be honest, since I discovered this feature, my daughter and I use it all the time. You see, even when we reduced it to 50%, the prints are still as good as the ones we got from our inkjet printer.

The Samsung ML 1440 printer is economical, efficient and convenient. These are all the qualities I want in a printer. Printing in color may be a problem, but it's rare to need color printouts. Our new printer has made such a pretty good impression on my daughter and me.

Considering how easy this printer was to set up, I had high hopes when I needed to replace the Samsung ML 1440 toner.  I was right as a quick online search for Samsung ink and toner showed reputable sellers who offered printer toner at such great prices I can't complain anymore about big school projects!
