Who Is Santa?
Santa Claus needs no introduction. He is loved by millions around the world. He is easily the world most recognized character. Every store of every town of every state has a Santa Clause come visit each year, a tradition started by Macy's oh so many years ago.The Santa Claus mythology goes back a long ways. The first Santa Claus stories as we know them today started in the 1600's, though he didn't become popular until the 1820's and it wasn't until the 1930's that we started seeing the fat man in a red suit. Stories of one Saint Nicholas date back to around 600 AD. Saint Nicholas, the original Santa was a real person, a monk and a martyr, and nothing like the jolly Father Christmas we know today. By the 1600's Saint Nicholas stories had somehow blended with the Celtic Old Man Winter stories. By the 1800's both Saint Nicholas and Old Man Winter had combined to create a new character known as Father Christmas, who in turn evolved into the Santa Claus we know today.
What started as a kind monk who gave gifts to local children, soon became legends of a mystical holy man who rewarded children for praying to Jesus, and would eventually evolve into the fairy tale of the immortal elf who travels the world in a single night to give gifts to every child in the world.

Santa is the spirit of Christmas: the love and joy that comes from giving to others. Santa is me. Santa is you. Santa is everyone who loves unconditionally everyone in the world.
