Sarah McLachlan

The first time I heard a Sarah McLachlan song I was in college. I think it was 1995, which would have been 7 years after the release of her first record Touch. I loved her voice and had to buy some of her albums. Fumbling Towards Ecstasy was the first one I picked up and I added to my collection as new ones came out.

Then in 1997 the all women concert tour Lilith Fair, which Sarah founded, was announced and I had to go. It was amazing and I went each of the three years it went on (and again in 2010!).

Her 'Best of' album came out in October 2008. I got to see her at MixFest promoting it a few summers ago and was so glad to hear her perform live again :)

Sarah McLachlan doesn't need to make a 'comeback'. People who don't know much about Canada and our music would think of Anne Murray and Celine Dion as the only singers we have. But, Sarah McLachlan is the real singing angel. Jann Arden is still my favourite but I'd never turn down a chance to hear Sarah McLachlan. Her voice gives you shivers, in a very good way.

I obviously have not been paying enough attention to this lady. I didn't realize she has done so much. Thanks for opening my eyes.

Angel or Arms of an Angel is one of my favorite grief songs.

I love the God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings song she did with Barenaked Ladies. I saw them in concert once and they started singing it and then announced "Ladies and gentlemen, Sarah McLachlan!" and the crowd freaked out, then they said "That would have been so cool, wouldn't it? But, nah, she's not here".

That's my favorite Christmas song. :)
    And how evil of them!

I love her so much! My favorite album is Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. I also discovered her in the mid 90's, and really love the fact that she still around producing quality music.

The lady is in a class of her own, and she never fails to amaze me with her constant striving to be the best that she can be. If it should turn out she's only fooling me, pulling the wool over my eyes...well, it sure has been a nice walk in the dark.
  • MissMerFaery Mar 8, 2009 @ 4:33 pm | delete
Without a doubt, the best singer in the whole wide world :o) Surfacing is my favourite album, but I do love them all!

Be interesting to know which album is people's favourite? Surfacing is mine...
  • The_Homeopath Sep 5, 2008 @ 8:31 am | delete
I didn't realize she had a "best of" coming out. How cool is that? I'll be adding this to my Christmas list for my husband, he's a big fan of hers.

    Great start to this lens!
