  • nyclittleitaly Mar 8, 2012 @ 12:17 am | delete
Great lens. Although, I had a sausage and pepper stand at the San Gennaro Feast for many years. I prefer barbecue to fried. That is how my family made them. I have a lens on the San Gennaro Feast.

Delicious stuff! I've tastedit, or rather I have fed on it for ages, ever since I can remember! It was introduced into Argentina by the Italians, precisely.
    Thanks for sharing!

Nothing like grilling onions, peppers, and mushrooms in the kitchen, sure brings out a great smell!
  • Swisstoons Jan 5, 2012 @ 7:08 pm | delete
Man, that looks good! I don't generally eat a lot of meat (besides chicken and fish) as a rule. But I'd love to give one of these a whirl...with a cold glass of beer. :P
  • SereneSea Nov 2, 2011 @ 6:28 am | delete
I haven't had a chance to try the Italian food. Given an opportunity, I would sure like to taste this gourmet food.
  • foodiemama Oct 3, 2011 @ 12:31 am | delete
I just returned from NYC and had a sausage and peppers sandwich at the San Gennaro Festival...absolutely delicious! I liked it with rabe, too. Thanks for the recipe!
  • RenaissanceWoman2010 Sep 19, 2011 @ 9:05 am | delete
A delicious, multisensory experience. I will definitely try out your recipe. Love the artwork, too. Very evocative of Italy and all that I love about good food and good times. And now, because you have made me very hungry, I am off in search of something tasty. :-)

  • nancycarol Jul 25, 2011 @ 12:29 pm | delete
Las Vegas also has a San Gennaro Feast every year, but I'm sure the sausages cannot compare with the real thing from New York. Excellent recipe and tips for making the best Sausage and Peppers. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! May have met you at the Feast some years ago - your lens really brought back memories. I could almost smell the sausage grilling! Happy to be able to bless this lens as a visiting Squid Angel on the Memorial Day Squid Angel Tour Bus quest. As soon as we complete the tour, your lens will be featured on "Wing-it on Squidoo," our lensography of some of the best lenses we've found.

Ii love the old school photo of the Italian lady with her hands full of sausage. I also found the puppy chewing on a hanging sausage very entertaining. I often cook up a dish of sausage and find a tasty side dish to serve with them. I really like your recipes and they all look delish and tasty. One idea for a sausage side dish is stuffed shells where one can control the filling in the stuffed shell to create a desired taste wanted for the meal.
  • TWOnline2 Dec 13, 2010 @ 4:39 am | delete
    i love this stuff
  • mikewaz Dec 11, 2010 @ 10:41 am | delete
Though I like just about any sausage, good Italian sausage (hot) has got to be my favorite. I love it by itself, with peppers and onions or giardiniera. Now I guess I'll be having some today after reading your lens.
  • Mrmakingusmile Nov 30, 2010 @ 5:31 pm | delete
I love sausages on the grill. Yummy and tasty. Thanks for making me smile.

We are in Little Italy for the September festival and fell in LOVE with the hanging iron cages over many of the open fires...what are they called and how can we buy one?
  • EmmaCooper Nov 4, 2010 @ 12:40 am | delete
    Tasty lens!
  • rwoman Nov 3, 2010 @ 7:38 pm | delete
I love great sausages but unfortunately here in Kentucky they are more about ham and of course beef. I grew up in Upstate NY where there were lots of specialty butchers who made great sausage.
  • bakerwoman Oct 24, 2010 @ 6:57 pm | delete
This lens made me really hungry. I love Polish and Italian sausages. What a gstronomical treat.

Hmmmmmm, I always end up feeling hungry when I visit your lenses. I am thinking that a wheatfree alternative for someone like me to this would be to serve up on a bed of rice.Robin
  • mikewaz Jul 17, 2010 @ 9:14 am | delete
Italian sausage is one of my favorites because it's so versatile. Grilled, fried, baked in a casserole or in a nice thick sauce it's tough to beat.

I make my own and a few variations are Italian pepper sausage and Sicilian sausage with wine and cheese and do they disappear fast.
  • vallain Jun 18, 2010 @ 8:46 am | delete
Wow, that does look tasty! I'm looking forward to summer festivals and foods cooked on the grill.
  • Spook Mar 24, 2010 @ 11:11 am | delete

Hello Having been born and raised "up north" in N.J just across the water from N.Y I have not only been to the San Genaro Feast every year with my parents since I was a child but also every other Feast be it in N.J or N.Y. I had a Uncle who had a stand right at the Feast and he did use equal portions of red peppers, green peppers and onions. BUT you cannot have a great Italian sandwich without great Italian Bread. If you dont have a grill for this recipe I suggest the old Cast Iron Pan.

Great Site! Thanks for the memories. Vecchio

  • rms May 26, 2009 @ 8:06 am | delete
    Hi Mira,
Sorry but at the feast the pepper to onion ratio is different than you might want to make yourself at home. Peppers can be expensive. You are absolutely able to adjust this recipe to add more peppers if you like. I left the green pepper out because i prefer it with only the red but again, you are more than welcome to use the green mixed with red peppers.
  • Mira May 17, 2009 @ 10:52 am | delete
I think you left something out of the recipe - you list only two red peppers and no green. That's not enough peppers, plus you have green peppers pictured so clearly you used them. Otherwise, this is great.
  • papawu May 14, 2009 @ 3:36 pm | delete
This lens had my mouth watering! I am a huge sausage fanatic and have had the sausages of just about every country you could think of. I have never had the sausages at the feast in NYC, but have had plenty of different kinds of Italian style sausage and peppers in New York and Chicago. Fabulously tasty lens.
  • Auntiekatkat Mar 14, 2009 @ 7:14 pm | delete
Welcome to the the very best of Squidoo food lens. Authentic sausage and peppers, plain ol' sausage and peppers, any old sausage and peppers, all sound great to me.
  • flighty02 Feb 5, 2009 @ 2:57 am | delete
These look lovely! Agree with using good quality sausages, I get mine from the local farm shop, they are slightly more expensive but they do taste so much better.
Welcome to The Cooks Cafe group.
  • kiwisoutback Sep 4, 2008 @ 11:25 am | delete
I've been to the Feast of San Genaro twice, and I've had those pepper and sausage sandwiches. They're incredible! Homemade or locally made sausage does make a big difference, too. Great work! I think the feast should be coming up again really soon.
  • The_Homeopath Jun 19, 2008 @ 11:46 pm | delete
I HATE this lens. Feast season is coming up here, and I can't eat pork anymore. Boo.
  • KimGiancaterino Feb 28, 2008 @ 2:17 pm | delete
My husband will love this. He will only buy sausage from our neighborhood Italian deli. Nice addition to Italy HQ's food section!
