Windows XP is far better than Vista!
With Microsoft set to start taking XP off shop shelves in June this year, users have been loudly pointing to its superiority over its successor Windows Vista, which has garnered lukewarm reviews since its January 2007 launch.
Working to Keep Windows XP Alive
InfoWorld, a publication that covers the information technology industry, launched a "Save Windows XP" petition drive in January. Microsoft originally planned to stop selling XP to retailers and computer manufacturers at the end of 2007, but extended that deadline to this June 30.

Microsoft will continue to provide mainstream tech support for XP users until April 2009, and will provide "extended" tech support for patches and security updates through April 2014.
XP also will be available for sale until Jan. 31, 2009, by "system builders," small businesses that custom-build "white box," or generic, PCs.

Honestly, I find that XP is less buggy than Vista. I want to save Windows 98 ... is it too late?

Normally, I try and see things from both sides of the issue, but this time, I must come out in full support of Windows XP. Vista simply wasn't worth the wait. It's great to see everyone supporting this. It's becoming a movement. Be sure to check out other places that support Windows XP like our Windows forum. Thanks.

The irony is that the main computer store in my city offers a free DOWNgrade to XP when you buy one of their Vista loaded computers.

Definitely! Most computers over a year old have components not compatible with Vista, or have insufficient memory or disk space to make it perform adequately. And then which version of Vista do you pick? The basic version has no bells or whistles, so it's a waste of money. The Home Edition has the multimedia features but lacks the networking and other features that many people need. The Business Edition lacks the multimedia features, and the Ultimate Edition is too expensive. For Pete's sake - just give us one operating system that works! XP is pretty stable, it works well enough, I'm waiting until the successor for Vista comes along, and maybe that will be Linux. Ubuntu works pretty well and it's getting better all the time.

We have both XP and Vista (on the new computer) and all I can say is I LOVE XP and I can't stand using Vista. I'll keep XP as long as I can.

It's a great operating system and I don't plan to switch to Vista any time soon. However, it will be replaced like any other (if not by Vista, then by Windows 7 which is supposed to come out soon). Just like some people used to stick to Win98 when XP came out...

- We grabbed a copy of XP that was left in stock after Microsoft announced it would no longer be available. Best money we ever spent! Microsoft has really been dropping the ball with a lot of their products. My hubby has a habit of convincing people wanting to by Xbox-360 to buy the PS3 instead - it's a much better investement.

- I agree with Julie: I used to understand DOS as well (with windows 3.11 loaded on top that is).
There really is something weird going on here - even my mom is considering buying a non MS computer. I mean - buying an XP machine is just not a good idea if they don't continue to support it. & buying a vista machine doesn't sound like a great idea either. So into the arms of Apple or even Ubuntu it is, probably. Weird.
