The sciatic nerve is formed from the lower segments of the spinal cord. Sciatic nerve pain occurs when there is damage to the sciatic nerve.
The Sciatic nerve controls the muscles of the back, the knee, lower leg, and foot and provides sensation to the back of the thigh, part of the lower leg and the bottom of the foot.
Symptoms of Sciatic Nerve Pain
Common symptoms of sciatic nerve pain include:* Cramping sensation of the thigh
* Shooting pain from the back and butt running down the leg
* Tingling sensation in the legs and thighs
* Burning sensation in the thigh
Sciatica can develop in almost anyone at any age. The sciatic nerve, like most other nerves, performs two basic functions, it sends signals to your muscles from the brain, and it collects sensory information from the back, butt, and legs and sends it back to your brain. When people refer to sciatica, it is a problem that is caused when the sciatic nerve is being pinched as it exits from the spinal cord causing sciatic nerve pain.
Common Cause of Sciatic Nerve Pain

The most common cause of sciatic nerve damage causing sciatic nerve pain is from lifting objects improperly. The sciatic nerve can also be injured by fractures of the pelvis or other injury to the butt or to the thigh. Pressure is created due to prolonged sitting or lying in a particular position, which can gradually injure the sciatic nerve. The sciatic nerve may also be injured by pressure from a tumor or bleeding in the pelvis. Depending on where the sciatic nerve is affected, the pain may also run all the way down to the foot or toes. The following sensations may occur as a result of sciatic nerve pain:
* Pain at the back or leg that is worse when sitting.
* Burning or tingling sensation running down the leg
* Difficulty moving the leg or foot due to weakness or numbness
* A constant pain on one side of the butt that makes it difficult to stand up.
Severe Sciatic Nerve Pain
Sciatic nerve pain can be very scary especially if you don't realize what is wrong. The pain can be so severe that you feel you might become crippled, most of the time sciatic nerve pain can be treated effectively. For the first few days to a week it is very important to stay off your feet. Repeatedly getting up and down can causes the nerve to become more inflamed and irritated. Applying heat can be very soothing but prolonged heat worsens the inflammation, keeping the swelling high. A lot of doctors tell their patients to apply ice packs directly on to their lower back area for about twenty minutes, every couple of hours to reduce the swelling.Treatment:
Some doctors prescribe medicines but medications can be highly addictive. Surgery is only considered as a last resort as it only helps about one in a hundred people. Surgery has also been known to cause even more damage in many cases. Only open back surgery can correct sciatic nerve pain but it also brings with it high risks and possible complications. There is also another treatment, the laser spine treatment where the herniated disc is removed with a laser so that the sciatic nerve is no longer pinched.

- Informative lens you have here, I was not totally aware that It occurs due to a pinched nerve near a disc at the spinal cord or a bone. The pain begins in the lower back and runs from the butt down the back of the leg. Indeed, it is best to consult a doctor to give us proper advises. DePuy Pinnacle Lawsuit
