Science Awareness Includes Technology, In My Book

I opened this lens to foster more awareness of science as a method of engaging reality and to promote scientific literacy.

Technology increasingly overlaps science, so I include awareness of technological progress under this topic and nick-name the new category sci-tech.

Scientific literacy has deepened my appreciation of life's wonders and mysteries. Because the scientific method is a toolkit for comprehending whatever is measurable about reality, it leaves plenty of un-measurable concepts and meaning for philosophy, art, religion and spirituality to discuss, define and express.

This lens, a cousin to my Religion Resources lens, is here to be an expanding reference of sci-tech resources.

Always be reading one science book!

I am always reading at least one science book. Reading at least one science book at all times has become a kind of 'rule of thumb' for me. It is so easy nowadays to find the next book to open my horizons up further that I don't even try to find an excuse not to.

Sci-Tech's Many Facets Don't Have Crystal Clear Boundaries

Science merges with technology, and sciences and technologies overlap and interconnect! Where will this confusing complexity lead?

Science is formal or natural and physical (study of non-living stuff) or biological (life sciences). But I find the boundaries among the fields and disciplines of science are getting more and more blurry.

Technology covers everything we do with scientific knowledge--all kinds of tool inventing to make life easier and better. But many question whether technologies have improved matters on the planet, or instead, lead us closer to a cataclysmic ending of life as we know it.

Scientific Method: Scientific knowledge is discovered through scientific methods techniques of observing, as objectively as possible, then collecting and analyzing measurable, empirical evidence through experiments designed to be repeatable. Hypotheses, or proposed explanations for natural patterns and events, are tested and tweaked through controlled experiments, carefully set up to prove or rule out specific explanations by eliminating as many variables as possible. Exact methodologies differ from field to field and include meta-studies of collections of experiments and computer simulations. Gradually, theories grow from such processes, connecting many hypotheses across several fields of study.
