Throw a Scooby Doo Party
The Scooby Doo Cartoons were a huge favorite of mine growing up in the seventies. The cartoon has appeared to be timeless as the syndicated show has now reappeared on the cartoon network. Young children in this day and age seem to adore the Scooby Doo gang as evidenced by lunch boxes, dvds, and other gear sold at retail stores. My children are no exception to getting caught up in the Scooby Doo fanfare. My son even requested a Scooby Doo themed birthday party. Pulling off a Scooby Doo party can be a lot of fun and go over quite easy with your guests with the right planning of decorations, party favors, games, and of course food.
Invitations
Invitations can be quite easy and can involve some creativity on the party setter. Try and implement a Scooby Doo Mystery theme with a groovy pattern and some question marks and perhaps Scooby's head or a paw print on your invite. You can find Scooby doo graphics online or even implement a collage from comic books or stickers. You can begin the invitation with "John Doe requests your assistance to help solve his birthday mystery on Thursday, May 1, at 3 pm". Please join us for food, fun, and games.
Decorations

The theme of the day will be using Mystery Machine colors of yellow, purple, and green. Use latex balloons and streamers with these colors and place them throughout the party site. If the party is occurring indoors, then consider acquiring a few colored light bulbs to provide the groovy theme as one would see in the cartoons.
You will also want to use table linens with these same groovy color schemes or consider getting Scooby animated printed linens and a center piece. These cartoon themed decorations can usually be found at your party headquarters or online. Some of these decoration sets include linens, center pieces, cake toppers, party hats, and serving ware. You will definitely want some decorations featuring our pal Scooby, preferably a cake topper, center piece or birthday banner. If you do not want every item to have a Scooby logo on it, then opt for just colored table cloths and balloons and keep the character theme with the hats, cake, and plateware.
Food
The appropriate food for the Scooby birthday would be just about anything the kids will enjoy. For snacks leading up to the birthday lunch, provide your mystery crew with Scooby snacks which can be found at most grocery stores in the cracker aisle. Scooby snacks are a cinnamon graham based cracker that the kids will find quite tasty.
Scooby and Shaggy ate just about everything but the kitchen sink. Shaggy even had a passion for chocolate covered anchovies. I am not sure such delicacies will work with six and seven year olds. Try to simplify your lunch menu to hot dogs or a good size pizza for your hungry mystery solvers. Throw in a few extras like a pasta salad or chips, with a spooky mystery punch.
The birthday cake can be simply a homemade cake with a few Scooby Doo characters or figures placed on top. If you are really ambitious, you can find Wilton cake molds that had the Scooby Doo caricatures. The cake will get tricky during the icing stage as you will need a few different colors to complete the dessert, but the kids will definitely appreciate the effort. You can also check with local bakeries as many will have the ability to create cartoon themed sheet cakes.

Games & Projects
To make the party complete, there should be plenty of games to offer up the young birthday detectives. One game will consist of getting letters to the birthday boy or girl's name and hiding them throughout the party area. Again try and stick to the theme by using letters cut out from purple, yellow, and green construction paper. The hiding spots will be even better if you can arrange this game to occur outside. You can offer up your young detectives some clues to which they can seek out the letters and spell out the birthday boy's name. Another game might be a pin the tail on the Scooby.
Mummification - Divide your guests into two teams that will pick a mummy or child to be wrapped. Each team will be given two rolls of toilet paper of which they will begin wrapping their mummies from toes to the head. The first team to finish wins a Scooby prize.
Other party games can include relay races such as potato sack races, egg tossing, and water relays. The ability to host relay events will of course depend on your party size.

Party Favors
You can also create a tie dye magical mystery t-shirt project by using the mystery machine dyes of green, yellow, and purple. Have a parent or two set up the tie dye project supervising the kids and keeping the craft area free of mess. Once the t-shirts are dried, you can add a Scooby Doo iron prior to delivering the shirt to your guest. This makes a great party favor that will be remembered.
Additional party favors can include toys, comic books, tattoos, an stickers with the Scooby doo characters on them. If time permits you can make Scooby Snacks of your own by making a sugar cookie dough and cutting out cookies with the bone shaped cookie cutter. You can write then decorate the cookies with colored sugars of yellow, green, and purple and wrap them in cellophane to be included with the take home treat bags.
