Born in Boston, Massachusetts, William J. Monahan is a former periodical writer who has published a novel titled Light House: A Trifle (2000) and currently works in the film industry as a screenwriter, producer, and director. He won a 2006 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay for The Departed. His directorial debut, London Boulevard, is set to be released in 2010.
