What Is Second Life Anyway? And Why Do You Need One!

Second Life means a little something different for everyone. You see many people would say it's an online game, while others would say its much more than this...

As Linden Labs (the creators of SL) put it; "Second Life is so cutting-edge it defies genre classification"

And they sure have a good point, while for some people SL is an online game a big playground for them to login, explore, have fun and meet new friend etc...  For other people SL is so much more, it's a kind of "digital world" where you can be, create or do absolutely anything you like.

* For Some It's A Job. A place where you login, do work and get paid just like any other job.

* For Some It's A Business. Yes people actually run real businesses, you name it and chances are SL has it already, its got shopping malls, clubs, bars, café's, casinos, arcade machines, hotels, houses, movie theatres, cars, boats the list goes on and on...

* For Some It's A Investment. Some people buy and sell land, while others use the land to develop houses on which they can then rent out to residents, or even build big shopping areas, and then rent out shops and ad space.

* For Some It's A Digital Playground. Probably the most exciting thing about SL is that nearly everything you see in-game is built created and owned by its residents, which are mostly everyday people like you and me.

* For Some It's Entertainment. SL also allows you to do cool things such as stream audio and video content from the internet in-game. Some people even have live DJ's playing at their venues and clubs; you can even find movie theatres streaming full length videos which you can watch!

* For Some It's A Dream Come True. Believe it or not some people are even leaving their real day jobs, and opting to run a virtual business in SL instead. While some people are doing this simply for the new found freedom it brings them… others are doing it and making quite a nice income from it.

Second Life opened its doors to the general public in 2003 and you could say it has been a hit from day one. Its rate of grown has been exceptional and today SL is inhabited by millions of people from all around the world. And this is said to be growing at a rate of over 33% or more, every month!
