Secret shopping is an extremely flexible alternative to making money in the conventional sense. Its focus is on measuring the quality of customer service as well as the overall customer experience in retail shops, restaurants and other kinds of establishments all over the country. Looking at it from a management perspective, the bottom line is that the customer needs to walk away feeling as if they received their moneys worth and that they were treated well by the employees.

They hire outside companies to come in and analyze employee skills and commitment by posing as regular patrons of the establishment, just randomly walking in off the street. Because the employees do not know that they are being observed, they do not have their guard up, and they are more likely to behave in their normal way. If they are not as friendly as perhaps they could be, or if they are not knowledgeable about the companies policies and procedures, secret shopping can be a huge factor in determining just where the shortcomings are that need some work.

Just about any job, especially if it is in the hospitality industry, has training programs in place to insure that all employees follow certain standards of action and are customer oriented. Most people, when they are hired on, whether it is in a restaurant or a casino, will at some point be observed in a secret shopping assignment. Most of the time, the observation is positive, or at the very least neutral. However, there are times when an employees performance merits a report that is less than favorable. This does not mean that the employee will lose his job automatically, though. Most employers will give negative reports their attention, bringing it forth in training programs, building strength within the entire team, and insuring that no one ever need receive a negative report.

Secret shopping may seem to some like spying, or lying, and for that reason not all people can do the job adequately without feeling guilty, or as if they are trying to trick others into having them believe that they are someone else. The people who choose to do this for a living have integrity, and they want the establishments that they are assigned to observe to have integrity as well. It is such a great benefit to the companies to know exactly where their customer service is faltering. Many companies have a constant stream of secret shopping assignments being undertaken on a regular basis as a way of measuring progress within the team of employees.

From an employees perspective, all one need do is put forth the effort to be as customer friendly as one can. Putting the customers first makes any mistake easier to digest. Customers are forgiving, if they are treated with respect. If they are neglected or ignored, however, and you do happen to make a mistake, disaster will follow. There is no reason to be afraid of being observed. Just be friendly, smile and go on with your work. Your employers will be gracious when they see that you have improved your score from previous analysis, and they may even use you as a good example or offer you a much appreciated bonus.

The benefits to everyone involved in such analysis are many, from the people who are doing the assignments, to the employers and employees of the companies that hire them, and all the way up to the customers who are receiving much better service as a result of the findings. Everyone wins!

The business houses imitating foreign brands should be very careful in this aspect, because their products might not live up to the expectations of the clients however superior they may be in terms of quality. For this, the firm must get surveys conducted at their malls by their agents regarding the spending power of their buyers.
