Surprisingly Simple Secrets To <a href="http://www.TrainPetDog.com/h/fourhounds/dog-potty.html">House Training a Puppy</a>
The first step in making your Dog fit for polite company would be to potty train him. Some see this training as a hassle and some as a challenge. For me, it is part of bringing up a pet. I found a great free mini course online! Check it out at: House Training a Puppy
First you need to understand that in the natural setting for wolves and dogs, the animals will defecate and urinate anywhere, and at any time they need or want. So when a puppy or dog has an "accident" in the house, he/she is only doing what comes natural. Before getting into a rage when your puppy has just peed on your favorite rug, count to 10 and remember that canines do not realize if they are doing anything "bad". I'll hear people say, "the dog knew better because he (she) looked guilty and ran away when I came in the room." The reality of the situation is that the dog has been yelled at and/or treated poorly and is scared and stressed. Think about it this way - if you were suddenly transported to another planet and you had to go to the bathroom and you used a toilet but then got scolded, spanked and tossed outside, you would be confused and stressed. A dog does not have the ability to understand English, or where it is acceptable to go potty. These things must be taught with love and patience or it will take longer than needed for your dog to get house trained.
So the first secret to house breaking your puppy or dog is to remember they are not human, do not understand English, cannot read your mind and will not understand where you want him/her to go potty until you teach him. You may want to paper train your dog in case you must leave for extended amounts of time. And daily walks should be a part of your routine - even if you have a yard. House breaking is a TEMPORARY situation (2-4 months) if done correctly and although all furry kids are different, you CAN train your dog!
