    Making a profit selling options starts with having a great options broker. Don't start off on the wrong foot if you're just starting to trade options.

    Another great strategy is credit spreads. This allows you to gain monthly income while minimizing your risk, as opposed to naked options which have unlimited risk. For anyone looking to get started in options trading, I recommend Optionshouse. I have both an Optionshouse and Interactive Brokers account. IB are much a little bit cheaper, but the Optionshouse platform is much more user friendly. They have loads of tools available as well, I particularly like the P&L calculator which allows you to evaluate your trades based on different inputs for volatility and time to expiry.

    It's very easy to open an account, you can even open a virtual account online in a few minutes that allows you to take their system for a test drive.

    Great info -- I have been writing covered calls and generating 3% to 5% a month for several years with very limited risk (by combining long-dated puts for insurance). Recently at a trading event with some pretty adept traders, no one at my table knew much if anything about the ins and outs of selling covered calls .. I was amazed and this group is pretty educated ... most brokers don't want you to have this info!
