Selling Lounge - Sellers Helping Sellers

========================================================
We are a friendly forum where sellers help sellers to help our/your online E-Commerce Business grow by having a place of resources and support along with help in promoting ourselves and each other.

I have been selling on line since 2003 in which I started out with eBay where I was doing very well as a Powerseller until all the fee hikes and changes. I then opened up my first Website Jan. 2007 and have been a member of a few very nice informative E-Commerce Forums and have learned so much about this new world of online selling that I wanted to have all my information in one place to help me succeed and by doing that helping others at the same time.

I have noticed that there is a ton of information out there on the net to help us become successful business owners and there are certain things that we must do in order to get our products out there and noticed and to get the buyers to us.

So I'm hoping that we can all share with each other "our tips" of "what works" and "what does not work".

I want everyone to feel comfortable with adding their Stores (including links to their stores and products), Blogs, Squidoo, Kaboddle, Top 100 Sites, MySpace, Facebook, StumbleUpon, etc.

The Selling Lounge Mission

Welcome To The Selling Lounge!

We are committed to and strive to create a friendly on-line Forum where E-Commerce Business Owners, (members) can share their knowledge and learn from others in an environment strictly and solely dedicated to promoting the growth and success of member E-Commerce Businesses. Simply put, this Forum is dedicated to Sellers helping Sellers and is opened to, and welcomes everyone who shares this vision!

Given that the World Wide Web is mostly unregulated, there is no shortage of people who have developed and promote on-line forums and e-commerce sites that are used in a manner that is contrary to the above. It is because of this fact that this Forum has been developed for the purpose of sharing knowledge and learning from others and therefore, will remain committed to this end. While we welcome everyone, we have an obligation and duty to maintain the essence and high standards associated with this Forum and reserve the right to protect our valued members by blocking or deactivating people who use the Forum in an abusive negative manner.

How to Get Links to Your Website

Search engine crawlers don't just consider the content and outbound links on your site. They also place a strong emphasis on the links from other sites to your site, which are known as inbound links.

How Links Help
Google was the first search engine to use inbound links as a factor in search results- a feature it calls PageRank. PageRank is a 0-10 score (10 is highest) determined by the number and PageRank of sites linking to yours. All else being equal, the higher your PageRank, the higher your site will rank in search results. (Following Google's lead, most other major search engines now also favor sites with a significant number of inbound links.)

To see your site's PageRank, install the Google Toolbar (available at toolbar.google.com). The PageRank of any ranked site you browse to will appear in the PageRank icon in your browser's toolbar. Sites with very little traffic will typically have no PageRank.

Good Links vs. Bad Links
All inbound links are not created equal in the eyes of today's search engine crawlers. The inbound links to your site should, ideally, have the following traits:

* High page rank: The higher the rank of sites linking to yours, the better. For instance, a link to your site from a page on Yahoo! will have a much greater impact on your site's page ranking than a link from a friend's blog.
* Few outbound links: Inbound links from sites that also have many outbound links do little to improve your search engine rankings.
* Relevant content: Search engines tend to reward sites that have inbound links from sites with similar content. For instance, if you're running a blog about investing, a link from another investing site to your site will be viewed favorably by search engines.

Natural Links vs. Artificial Links
Search engines can easily spot the difference between artificially created networks of reciprocal links and networks of links that develop naturally over time. Links in artificial networks connect to one another in a regular pattern, making it clear to search engines that these links did not arise naturally. Search engines favor a more haphazard network of links because it indicates that the links are genuine and not created solely for the purpose of improving search rankings. In other words, artificially creating lots of links to your site probably won't help your search results ranking.
Getting Inbound Links
Though the best networks of inbound links happen naturally through word of mouth, you can help get your network of inbound links started by following these steps:

1. Focus on content first: The first step in getting people to link to your site is to offer helpful, high-quality content. Your content can't just be good, though: it also needs to be unique in some way to convince other sites that your site is worthy of an outbound link. Sites that merely duplicate content that's readily available elsewhere on the web won't merit outbound links.
2. Contact relevant sites: Getting links from other sites is often as simple as asking. Send an email to the site's owner or main contact person with a polite request that the site link to yours. Focus on sites with content relevant to yours. You're more likely to get webmasters of relevant sites to link to you, and most search engines prefer relevant links to random ones.
3. Be specific in your requests: Don't use a form letter when asking for links. Instead, write a "customized" email to each site you contact explaining why that specific site should link to yours.
4. Offer a link exchange: Offering a link back to the site you're contacting from your site can convince other sites to link to you, especially if your site already has some traffic.

Title, Meta Name Description, & Meta Keywords!!

There are many reasons why buyers are not finding us, but I will start off with the Basics.

Make sure you have your TITLE, META NAME DESCRIPTION, & META KEYWORDS on your site.
This goes after:

ALWAYS USE CORRECT SPELLING!!!!! - ALWAYS USE CORRECT SPELLING!!!!! - ALWAYS USE CORRECT SPELLING!!!!!

1. TITLE

* From time to time you need to be fortunate to get a lot of traffic from search engines. You can greatly influence how much traffic you get from Google and the other search engines. Your Title should be clear using descriptive keywords of your site and something that your customers are trying to find on search.

2. META NAME DESCRIPTION

* Make sure that you use DESCRIPTIVE keywords in describing your site and your products! Google likes no more than 250 characters in your meta name description area.

3. META KEYWORDS

* Make sure that you are using keywords that your potential buyer is going to type into search to look for your items. Google likes no more than 250 characters in your meta keywords area.

A Secret:
Do a search on your items and type in things you think that your customers would type in to find you. Take a look at the top sites that pop up on search. Do a "VIEW PAGE SOURCE"! Look at all of their Title's, Meta Descriptions, & Meta Keywords. Then go to their sites and look at the titles and descriptions of the product.

You can usually find out why your items aren't showing up in search on the first page and theirs are. Now keep in mind this is just one reason.

How to Optimize Page Content for SEO
In addition to assessing the keywords you place within HTML tags, crawlers also consider various aspects of the content that you display to your site's visitors. Making SEO-friendly page content involves:

* Organizing page content
* Including keywords in page content
* Refreshing page content regularly

Organizing Page Content
Search engine crawlers view your pages very differently from the way human visitors do. Crawlers read your pages from top to bottom and consider all the HTML code that makes up your page, even if it's invisible to readers. To view your web pages like a search engine crawler:

Page Length
Crawlers tend to give the most weight to the first 500 or so words of text content on a web page. This means that in addition to putting the most important content first, you should also try to keep the total word count of each page on your site to 500 words or fewer. With this approach, you increase the likelihood that crawlers will consider all the content on each page, rather than just the first half of a 1,000-word page, for instance.

Including Keywords in Page Content
If your keyword list contains 100 or more keywords and phrases, you can't possibly include all those keywords on each page. Instead, focus each page on the few keywords and phrases most relevant to that page's main topic. For example, a page on poodle trimming might include keywords such as poodle trimming, trimmers, and trim your standard poodle in its text and headings, but it probably wouldn't include the phrase poodle washing.

Refreshing Page Content Regularly
Search engines reward sites that have fresh content. Keeping a site up to date can be as simple as adding fresh content regularly, ideally once a week or so at the least. The simplest way to add new content is to post it yourself-by updating your blog or posting a new article, for example. You don't always need to add fresh content manually, though.

Content Writing for Search Engines & Visitors

Your Main Page is Important!
The main page/home page is the first thing that a visitor will see and extremely imperative that you grab their eye and their interest in the first few seconds that they arrive.

Make sure that your content grabs the reader with well written useful information about your product and it is extremely important that your content is spelled correctly and makes sense. Remember you are trying to sell yourself and your product in the first few seconds!

Put yourself in the shoes of your visitors coming to your site. Would you stay there long seeing what you see on your site? What are you looking for when landing on a website?

You need to focus on a few factors. You want to generate high traffic through the search engines and also you want your site to retain your visitors which mean sales and return sales.

You will need to be writing your content for both the search engines and your visitors and this is important to remember while you are writing your content for your main page/landing page of your site.

How to write an effective About Me Page

Your "About Me" page is the first place your visitors go when they want to find out more about you and the product or service that you have to offer. This is a great opportunity to make a strong first impression which in turn equals sales.

New visitors to your site want to know instantly what your site has to offer them and your "About Me" page provides a quick and obvious answer. One of the most powerful tools you can employ to turn first-time visitors into loyal readers which in turn can lead to sales is to have an effective "About Me" page. The "About Me" Page is your powerful marketing tool when it is written and used correctly.
