Serapi is a controversial subject. Carpets that would be cataloged as Serapi at Sotheby's in London U.K. are usually listed as Heriz at Sotheby's New York. Still as a label it is recognizable in the market place and consistently brigs significant prices for the rugs sold.
Serapi Rugs have the cool jewel tones of old natural dyes tempered by the copper salts in the water of the Mount Sabalan region. Madder red has cool softer reds not bright like Caucasian reds and wonderful pistachio greens that we just don't see elsewhere in Persia.
