Serj Tankian: Singer, Song Writer, & Peace Activist: The Real Life Super Hero Out To Save The World
What do you get when you take hard core punk metal, throw in a grand piano, and start an anti war protest? Why Serj Tankian of course!
Here is a lens devoted to one of my favorite singers, song writers, pianist, and peace activist: Serj Tankian.
Serj Tankian is known for his unique song style (known as comedy metal) which combines punk metal with classical piano and a touch of craziness. What really makes his music stand out more than anything are the words themselves. His songs stand out against the rest of music today as the most outspoken against war and boldly protesting the war like no other singer has ever dared to do.
Most of the money he makes from his music is donated to charity in support of ending the war and helping those effected by the war.
Both a solo singer and lead singer of the band System of A Down, Serj Tankian stands out as one of the world's most outspoken anti-war protesters ever.

Serj Tankian (born August 21, 1967 in Beirut, Lebanon) is a Lebanese-born Armenian-American singer, songwriter, poet, activist, and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and keyboardist of the alternative metal band System of a Down. In 2002, Serj and Tom Morello co-founded a non-profit political activist organization, Axis of Justice. During his musical career, he has released five albums with System of a Down, one with Arto Tunçboyacyan (Serart), and also a solo album, Elect the Dead, on October 23, 2007.
Axis of Justice is a non-profit organization co-founded by Serj Tankian (of System of a Down) and Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave, The Nightwatchman). Its purpose is to bring together musicians, fans of music, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice together.
In a recent interview, Tom Morello remarked that he formed Axis of Justice with Serj Tankian after witnessing some members of the audience at Ozzfest 2002 promoting racist symbols and imagery. In an effort to promote a staunchly anti-racist and anti-fascist message, Axis of Justice allied with Anti-Racist Action shortly after its formation.
An Axis of Justice tent might appear at music festivals where either Rage Against The Machine or System of a Down (who is currently on an indefinite hiatus) are playing, as it did at Lollapalooza 2003. The Axis Of Justice also puts out a monthly radio show that can be heard on KPFK in Los Angeles, California and on XM Satellite Radio. The shows are archived in MP3 format on the AOJ website and are available as free downloads. They also have a number of books on their website that they recommend to support their views.
In 2004, they released a live album/DVD entitled "Axis of Justice: Concert Series Volume 1". It contains performances by Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Brad Wilk and Chris Cornell of Soundgarden and Audioslave, Serj Tankian from System of a Down, Pete Yorn, Tim Walker, Maynard James Keenan of Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer, and Wayne Kramer among others. It was recorded during a concert at the Avalon in Los Angeles. The concert was a benefit to raise money for the Axis of Justice and a variety of causes.
