Would you commit the ultimate sacrifice?

Warning: This page contains spoilers for the movie Seven Pounds, if you haven't seen the movie and don't want to know the ending, please don't read on.

I actually rented the movie Seven Pounds because I was in the mood for a little pick-me-up to get me motivated again. I didn't read any of the synopses on the web or even the back of the box, I figured if it was by the same team as In The Pursuit of Happiness it had to be along the same lines; boy was I wrong.

Seven Pounds is a movie about a man that has been saddened by a tragedy caused by a mistake that he had made. Seven people were killed in a car accident caused by Tim Thomas (played by Will Smith) driving negligently while talking on his cell phone; his wonderful wife was one of the people killed. To fill the void, Tim starts donating body parts to those that he deems worthy; starting with a lung lobe for his brother. As a viewer, you don't find this out about Tim until the film is at least half over and you are able to put the pieces together.

Why Seven Pounds was a Great Film

Seven Pounds

Seven Pounds left me with a creepy kind of void in the end. Did I love this feeling? Not really. Did it cause me to think? Hell yeah.

I was forced to dig deep and think if I would ever be able to give a sacrifice like that, whether you think it's right or wrong, it's still a sacrifice. Even being able to give up an organ without going as far as Ben Thomas did is a great gift to give to someone, even more so giving this gift to a total stranger.

Is suicide ok, if something good comes out of it?

Ben committed suicide to rid himself of the burden he was carrying. Even though he did it in a way to give back to others, the suicide was still carried out to rid him of his burden and pain.

Do you think this decision was right or wrong?

His suicide was OK because he planned it to give to others.

I don't care what you say, suicide is wrong no matter what good comes out of it.
