Severe Blushing Treatment #1

Social skills training can help many people struggling with blushing phobias. Oftentimes, excessive blushing is caused by social anxiety where the person fears social interactions. They feel at a loss for control and begin to fear the act of severe blushing which makes the situation worse. Social skills training helps these individuals know how to act in public situations. They fear not being able to act correctly in public which causes them to not act correctly and social skills training can help.

Severe Blushing Treatment #2

Assertiveness training is another way to successfully combat excessive blushing. This type of training helps blushers and people with social anxiety learn how to be more assertive. Oftentimes, people who blush are shy and non-assertive. They don't know how to correctly take control of their lives and therefore they lose control in front of others. This causes them to blush when feeling awkward.

Self esteem therapy is also a great way to treat severe blushing episodes. Another common characteristic of people who blush is the fact that they have low self esteem. They are uncomfortable around others and feeling as though others are negatively judging them. They worry that they are being stupid and that others are going to think bad thoughts about them. When faced with social situations they blush.

Diet and exercise is also very important for anyone with anxiety. When you are not exercising and taking care of your body, your chemicals are out of whack, which can intensify the feelings of awkwardness and nervousness. This can cause you to have more severe blushing episodes. Therefore, it is important to get at least 30 minutes/day of vigorous exercise and eat a well balanced diet.

Severe Blushing Treatment #5

Positive self talk is also important for blushing. You need to train yourself to like and respect yourself in order to overcome severe blushing. Write out positive affirmations on note cards and spend 5-10 minutes a day reading these out loud to yourself. You can write whatever you like - one suggestion is: "Even though I blush, I fully and completely accept myself." This is one that I use everyday, and if I ever catch myself getting nervous in a situation, I say this to myself silently and it really helps.
