Sex and the City - review of the Movie
I was not disappointed. However I would definitely not say it was a must see movie. It was a great feel good fantasy. A glossy fairy tale for grown women. The film was compelling and heartfelt and the female characters just as flawed and human and funny as they'd always been. And, of course, it wouldn't be Sex and the City without the the usual dose of designer bags and shoes, classic cocktails, and of course, a splash of nudity.
Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte translated well into film - they were true to their characters in the series. The male counterparts were all present - Mr Big, Steve, Harry, Smith, Stanford, his boyfriend etc. The movie spends most of the time on the trials of the female characters, naturally, and Carrie and Big's the most.
My thumbs up goes to the Personal Assistant, Louise, played by Jennifer Hudson who is the new kid on the block and is wonderful and fresh.
The negatives are that it was completely unrealistic. The girls seemed to have an unlimited supply of money - Carrie could just pay a Personal Assistant to sort her life out, they had all the freedom of single girls even though two were mothers, there was a lot of product placement, the film and characters were quite shallow etc.
I also did find the Carrie character quite childish, peevish and hysterical at times.
I like the fact that the movie doesn't try to be what it's not. It's a light and fluffy chick flick, a rom com and doesn't pretend to be a anything else.
As I read somewhere, "Not quite as sharp as the TV series but still a lot of fun! You'll love the familiarity if you're a fan!"
Enjoy!

- I liked the film but treated it just like a long episode for me charlotte with the runs was the funniest thing ever. Her facial expressions cracked me up.
I had a numb bum after the film but think the laughs kept it moving along nicely.
Definately one to see with the girls like i did.
I still can't decide which season i like best i'll have to come back to you on that one!
Ps i love the speech bubble and warning they're funky.

- Haven't seen it yet. Wild horses couldn't drag my husband to a two-hour version, so I guess I'll just wait for it to come out on DVD.
